Adriana Rose

I dont wear it with a hoop ( I would take out half of the shop before cannon if I did)

I cant remember the measurement but the skirt in a whole has at least 25 yards[/img]

sorry for the bad pic but that is the only that I have of it

CapnFayeCutler

Oh sorry, that was directed at Kate because I was curious about the enormous cage crinoline.

Love that cage crinoline! And the big fluffy tiered skirt. Can a cage crinoline collapse like regular hoops? Because otherwise, how on earth would you store that thing?!

Syrilla

I love cages!  I wish my queen gowns would take one, but alas they are too heavy

Do you mind if I ask how you did the layers? I have a skirt that is like that but with waay more ruffles and it weighs a TON I want to do another but I would like to cut some of the weight.

Drop it on the floor so it collapses in rings...  Gather them all to one edge.  Pick it up and twist it into a figure 8.  Fold that in half, and use both hands to stuff it into a large carrier bag being held open by a second person.  Bit like wrestling half a dozen spring-loaded anacondas, but doable!

What is the circumference of the hem? I'm trying to think of ways to make an enormous support to re-do my Kaylee skirt... I need it to be this big:

It's about 143" circumference.

Use heavy gauge flat steel corset and hoop boning in the bottom tier, and lighter weight flat steel above and it should do fine.  For Tudor/Elizabethan, you want the farthingale cone shaped, but there's no reason it shouldn't be made like a cage crinoline with tapes rather than fabric.

Syrilla

I tried that, but with out the support of the fabric it just would not hold.  I used 1" wood strapping for the bottom hoop as that is "stiffer" than the corset steel.  I even tried a theatrical cage that had over 10 bone layers? and it my forepart just warped it.  Sigh  I guess I need to stop beading....

gem

Syrilla, I wonder if you could cheat somehow and build some of the support into the underskirt/forepart, so the hoops aren't taking all the weight?

My friend does crazy beading and her skirt are really heavy. So for her hoops, she uses PVC. Its the kind that flexes, obviously, so she could curve it. Her hoops don't show through her fabric either. We hoop jousted the other day over a man to dance with and ..yeah..she won. Lol

You're beading chain mail or summat?   ;D ;D ;D

Syrilla

I use a combo of cpvc and metal.  It seems to be the only thing that will take all of the abuse and weight.

You would think my underskirt/forpart is as heavy an maile piece.  :D

A close up of my finished Elizabethan.

The full outfit with the very popular Joann's linen for a skirt.  The linen is a wonderful heavy weight linen that is perfect for skirts, jackets, and trousers.  The stays are out of buckram, linen, and pink silk with duct ties.   The hat is courtesy of Tall Toad.   The Spanish Surcote (which was worn throughout Europe in the late 16th C) is out of silver embroidered black velvet with 100% something not natural (acetate and poly, I think) lining.

So So lovely!   The surcote is just wonderful!
