I found out Wed. night the leather doublet that our hero in the show was wearing was dissintergrated beyond repair.  He needed a new one in 24 hours.  We pulled a "hail mary" out of the stash.  We still had left over sude cloth, and black cotton lining. I got the fabric at 8 PM, and by 11 that night we had a doublet.  It isn't meant to be fancy, just a simple warrior's doublet.  They didn't want it closed so it is left open. Saddly no shots of him wearing it yet but he had it for show time the next night, and loves it.
And people wonder why I am taking a break from theater until the kiddo is a year old....OY!
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Here is a shot of my son in his new doublet and new blackworked-sleeve shirt:

My thanks to Lady DeLaney for posting the pic!

The doublet is Margot Anderson's pattern, and the shirt is the simple rectangle pattern shirt.  Knife pleated collar and cuffs.  The blackwork is the linen JoAnn's sold last year.

Evie McCann

Wow! That is gorgeous, Butch. Love the sleeves! And you used a knife pleat for the collar and cuffs? I was thinking of doing something like that with my son-in-law's shirt that I'm working on. Love it!

I am notorious for never finishing any projects... but I think I've come very close!
I'm pretty sure the camicia needs to be a lot puffier.

Lady Rebecca

I finally finished my UFO project of three years ago. It is a 1955 Jean Desses-inspired cocktail dress. I saw the original (in brown) on my trip to the UK at the V&A in 2008, and started the skirt that summer, neglecting the bodice until now. But it's finished! I even made a bolero jacket to match. The skirt is comprised of 21 squares edged in lace, 21.5" on each side, for a total of over 25 yds at the hem of the skirt.

Lady Rebecca,
that is beautiful, I am so glad you finished it.

Soo Ja, that Itailan dress is very beautiful. I would say that the sleeves of the chemise need to be a little more puffy but thats my only thought.

Lady Rebecca, very nice 50's dress.

ooooooo   aaahhhhhhhhhhhhh,    And I do mean that literally.   Soo Ja, I am in love with the Italian look now, You are so on point with the Borgia's trend.  It is really very pretty and I especially like your sleeve accent.

Rebecca that dress is such a sweet confection!  The skirt is amazing and the color is so pretty.  Beautiful work!

You can kind of see, in this in progress pic, how the squares are assembled.

If you look at each square as a diamond, the top two sides of each are sewn together, leaving 1" unsewn at the top point on either side. (Luckily, the one inch points wound up being a pretty perfect fit for sewing on the bodice. I'm not sure what would have to be done if you were making it for a really small waist.) And then each of these points was whipstitched to just below the natural waist of the bodice.

I hope this clears it up! If not, I can try to take some close-up pics of the squares.
