Helme Castle is located in a a small borough of the same name in Valga County, in southern Estonia.

The Livonian Order of Teutonic Knights built the castle sometime between 1329 and 1350. The castle was in use until destroyed by the Swedes in 1658.

Château de Jumilhac is on the edge of the town of Jumilhac-le-Grand, France.

Herat citadel also known as the Citadel of Alexander or Qal'a-ye Ikhtiyar al-Din is in the heart of Herat, Afghanistan.

A stronghold was established here as early as the 6th century BCE. The city was destroyed entirely in 1221 by the Mongolian army and rebuilt by the Kartid governors who established their rule based in Herat Citadel by the mid-thirteenth century.

Dargun Castle, previously Dargun Abbey was a Cistercian monastery in Dargun, district of Demmin, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

The monastery was founded here in 1172 on the site of a former heathen temple after the conquest of the region by Christian forces in 1164. It was secularised in 1552 and taken over as a residence by Duke Ulrich I of Mecklenburg-Güstrow in 1556, who converted it into a Renaissance castle.

Burg Wredenhagen is the ruin of a castle in Wredenhagen, Germany.

The castle was built in 1284 as Castrum Novum Wenden by Fürsten Nikolaus von Werle. Existing documents state that in 1296 was the new castle is owned by the Herren von Werle.

Saint Catherine's Monastery fortification is in the Sinai region of Egpyt.

The Castle was built by Emperor Justinian I for the dual purpose of protecting the turquoise trade between Aqaba and Suez in addition to protecting the monastery there. Mount Sinaï is identified by Muslims as Mount Moses (hence its Arabic name, Jebel Musa/Gabbal Moussa), and for them, as for Christians, this is the place where God made a covenant with his people, handing down the Tablets of the Law to Moses.

Sumeg Castle is built on a mound in the heart of modern Sumeg, Hungary.

The history of inhabitation on this spot goes back to prehistoric times. A bronze age settlement of theHallstatt culture flourished here. The current castle was built by King Bela IV in the early thirteenth century. A much earlier fortress had been destroyed by Mongols.

Castle or Fortress Bekal is the largest fortress complex in Kasargod, Kerala, India.

While writing a description of the Kolathiri Kingdom in his Kerala History, K.P. Padmanabha Menon writes: "The eldest of the male members reigned as sovereign Kolathiri. The next in succession, the heir apparent, was the Thekkelamkur. The residence assigned to him was the Vadakara fort. The third in succession was the Vadakkelamkur in charge of Vekkolath fort. This V(B)ekkolath fort is identified by some scholars as the present Bekal. This would put the origin of the complex in the early third century BCE.

Old Crom Castle is located on the shores of Lough Erne in Northern Ireland.

It was a fortified tower house, build date unknown, owned by the Balfours until the Crichton family acquired it in 1609. The estate has been home to the Earls of Erne since then, with a new castle built in 1820.

Kilgobbin Castle is a stone tower house north of Ballyhander, Ireland.

The castle was built on the Bandon river in the mid to late 1400's. The construction is typical of other castles along the same river.

Kirkuk Citadel is a massive castle complex located in the centre of the city of Kirkuk in Iraq.

Wronin Castle, more currently known as Krowiarch Palace, is located in Krowiarki, Poland.

The current palace was built on the site of a late fifteenth or early sixteenth century structure. Possibly the original castle, and a wooden structure that replaced it had been in the family named Bees. It was owned at the beginning of the sixteenth century by John Trach and Kasper Wyskoty of Aquarius.
