Wickedvox, Thank you!  I was very fortunate that the gown was sold in auction a couple of weeks before I started, so I was able to find high quality pictures of it on-line to serve as my model.

Thank you, Soulstice! I'm having such fun working with these luxurious fabrics. It was my first time using a faux fur. (It made lots of loose fluff. I'm sticking to woven fabric in the future!)

Gem, I appreciate your kind words! Here is my DD's old garb, front & back views: http://s1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff400/pinquerose27/RF%20Garb/?action=view&current=1vg.jpg  I wish I had a picture of it from back in the '80's when I made it.  I altered it through the years. It's red/black antique satin, black velvet sleeves Xed with gold trim & jewels in the intersections, and just a touch of old lace here & there (to lengthen the sleeves, to hide where I took in the bodice, etc) The headpiece is narrow gold ribbons with pearls.

And this is my current garb, which I made for $35. Most of the fabric came from a fabrics by the pound store, supplemented by a gold curtain & a velvet & gold dust ruffle from a thrift store.  I'm using the same pattern for my DD's new green garb that I had used for my own.  (Obviously, mine was a larger size!) There are 2 versions, as I lost 35 pounds the year after I made it, & was able to take out the front bands for the second wearing. http://s1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff400/pinquerose27/RF%20Garb/?action=view&current=1sd.jpg  If I have time after finishing my DD's garb, I'm thinking of making myself new garb from a gorgeous old bedspread we're no longer using!

Adriana Rose, Gem & DonaCatalina -- Oh, my goodness, y'all are just SO SWEET!  I've been too shy to post before, but you make me feel so welcome! Thank you so much for your kind words!  It means more than I can say....

Please excuse me if I don't post for a while now; our local area has just been declared an emergency area. We may get up to 20 inches of rain in the next few days, and the Internet is a bit iffy when that happens.  My DD & I have agreed that it it gets too bad, we grab the garb & head for the hills!  My thoughts & prayers to anyone else who is in a similar situation.

Lady Rebecca

My work is very slowly coming along on my Jane costume (now that I have a job!). The petticoat and skirt are finished at this point, though I think I might move the eyelet trim from the petticoat to the skirt, so I don't have to worry about it ever not laying right.

Butch

Have been making two pair of trousers for my son.  Using heavy woven cotton material, drapery material I believe.  Anyway, when I gather the material at the cuffs and waistband, the thickness is so vast that my newer machine had all sorts of problems!  Very frustrating!  Anyway, it took me more than an hour and a half last night to just get the cuffs on!  Got one pair done.  How?  Well, I broke out my OLD machine after spending over an hour of frustration and cussing, and managed to just bang it right out!

So, I put the second pair off until later.  All that's left is the cuffs for the bottom, the buttonholes and buttons for the fly, and the closures for the cuffs.  That's all I had on the other pair, so you can understand my frustrations!

Well, at least one is done, and the other is near completion.

That's why I'll never get rid of my trusty old bargain basement Brother. That thing will sew through brick. Haven't needed to break it out yet since I got the Viking, but it's there should I need to!

For tough things like that, I've also resorted to hand-sewing the cuffs (since you usually have to hand-tack the facing down anyway), or turning the gathers into pleats.

Wickedvox

Very pretty Rebecca; I love the lace *just* peaking out the bottom. Can't wait to see it done! I just love Victorian era anything. Did you know there's a Victorian clothing board just like this one? It's called The Sewing Academy. You should check it out!

It's a dress!

Just three steps left: Lacing rings, sew up the front, and hem!  Well, and order some new black twill tape for the skirt guards (so I guess that's 5 steps, total. LOL).

And now for something completely different.... New bodice for old Victorian dress:

Lacks sleeves and lots of decorations... But getting there.

VERY pretty! Great job matching the stripes--that's hard for me to do.
