Castello di Capestrano, also called at times Piccolomini or Mediceo Castle is located in Capestrano, Italy. This is not to be confused with Piccolomini Castle located in Celano, Italy.

The castle was built in the 13th century, on the hill next to the Tirino river and the Abbey of St. Peter ad Oratorium in a strategic position at 505 m on the sea level. The first document of 1284, when King Charles I of Sicily gave the castle to Riccardo d'Acquaviva, marquis of Capestrano.

Castle Caldora Cantelmo is located in Pacentro, Italy.

Echizen Ono Castle , also known as simply Ono Castle, is a mountaintop castle, or yamashiro, located in Ono, Japan.

Banwolseong (literally "Half Moon Fortress"), also commonly known as Wolseong Palace, was the royal compound of the Korean Silla monarchy at their capital in Gyeongju.

The fortress was built by King Pasa(4 A.D.-24 A.D.) to protect the royal palace. The outer walls are now earth covered mounds and the moats ares till partially there. Some of the interior buildings have been maintained in various states of repair.

Hesperange Castle is a ruin located high above the town of Hesperange in southern Luxembourg.

Château de Hesperange, or Schloss Hesperingen as it is known in German, probably dates from the early 13th century when the Counts of Luxembourg gave Hesperange to the Lords of Rodenmacher. The village itself was first mentioned in 867/868.

Slot van Well, also known as Slot van Malsen is a moated castle in the village of Well , in the municipality Maasdriel in the Dutch province of Gelderland.

Bala Hisar Fort is one of the most historic places of Peshawar in Pakistan.

Renowned historian Dr A.H. Dani in his book Peshawar-Historic City of Frontier writes that when Hiuen Tsang, a Chinese traveller, visited Peshawar in 630 AD, he spoke of a "royal residence". He says that Chinese word "Kung Shing" used for its significance and is explained as fortified or walled portion of the town in which the royal palace stood.











Bala Hissar is also the name of an ancient fortress hear Kabul, Afghanistan.

I found out today that my son (through his mother) is a direct decendant of Robert Appleby, Lord of Barnard Castle, circa 1619.

We're planning to visit the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle, UK at the end of this month.

Way cool. I would really appreciate some pics, if you get the chance. Something that I could share with him. I don't know when he'll ever get the chance to get to England and see his family history there.

Brodnica Castle is located in Brodnica, Poland.

The castle was built by the Teutonic Order sometime between 1305 and 1312. The square castle was surrounded by a moat and earthen wall. Outside this was the L shaped complex that contained stables, chapter houses and other buildings.

Broniszow Castle is a castle in the small village of Broniszow, Poland.

It was built in the twelfth century as a knight's castle, the first owner was Bronislaw, later became the home of an earl in the Bytom Oder in the principality G?ogów on Lower Silesia . In the sixteenth century it was transformed from a defensive castle to a Renaissance palace.

The Castelo Rodrigo Castle is a castle in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, Portugal.

At the time of the Reconquest Christian of the Iberian peninsula , the village was conquered by Alfonso IX of Leon (1188-1230). At this time the king built the primitive castle. This defense should be completed or well advanced in 1209 when the County was created perfect and the town of Castelo Rodrigo received the first charter . The name of the castle and town comes from the name of the lord of his domain, Count Rodrigo Gonçalves Girão responsible for restocking and protection of the region at the time.
