So it looks like federal disaster funding has been approved for Texas.  Fire crews are here from California and New York now!  I Love our country!  We come together when needed.

This is still a pending question even though I did appreciate your answer Merlin and the banter that went with it lol:

Yesterday while listening to the scanner I heard 2 calls for location confirmation of Homeland Security. Trying to figure out what their involvement would be in a wildfire. If anyone has insight on this I would much appreciate an explanation.

Estimated 21k acres burned.  Waiting for update on that estimate.

'Saw this post so if you are local and have the time:

Firemen need beef jerky, Vienna sausage, indiv pkg peanuts and trail mix. Take to Buddy Riley fire station or little league football fields.'

I am thinking they will probably need constant replenishing of items such as aloe, lip balm, gloves, eye drops, non-drowsy allergy meds, aspirin, etc.  It's going to be a long weekend.

Thanks Fraser.  We are hoping to see some improvement soon, but are keeping an eye on things considering the estimate is 2 weeks or longer to beat the monster it has become.

Bonny, FEMA is under Homeland Security. More than likely that's what the call was about.
On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

I know it's not in the forecast but...

Okay that makes sense thanks.  I didn't know any federal response (beside the air crews) was active yet considering Texas didn't get Federal emergency funding approval until late last night.

Report from Grimes county this morning that no structures damaged overnight.  Grimes seems to be under control.

So far only 2 houses have been damaged and no structures lost.  Fire has not breached any of the fire lanes.

No rain in the forecast at all until next Friday.

Contact Robert Holleman at 979.221.4017. This location will be used for central storage of donations.

FIRE UPDATE!!!! PLEASE READ!!! WALLER COUNTY JUDGE GLENN BECKENDORFF   September 10, 2011 10:00am Yesterday we had one minor injury to a firefighter, due to smoke inhalation. We believe we have lost 8500-9000 acres in Waller County. We don't believe we lost any structures over night, so our count is still at 73+ We have new equipment that has arrived today including dozers and loaders. They are currently cutting new roads through the heavily forested areas to allow firefighters to get back to...

Firefighters from Grimes County are currently providing mutual aide in Waller County expanding/reinforcing fire lines that will better protect our county from a fire breach in the event of another large flareup. As of this time, Grimes County has no active flare-up and there are no fire lane breaches. We held off updating sooner waiting for an evacuation update, but have chosen to go ahead with this post. We are expecting the evacuation update any time and will post it immediately.

Yes it is.

I slept in my bed last night. He sleeps on concrete and probably isn't really getting a restorative sleep considering there is a radio next to him and his boots are ready to be back on in a heartbeat.
