And now for something completely different.... New bodice for old Victorian dress:

Lacks sleeves and lots of decorations... But getting there.

great dress.  For a second, I thought you had made it out of denim.  Glad I clicked on the pictures.   ;D

You're right, in the pictures it does look like denim! Haha! It's far from it in real life, though, it's a purplish blue brocade with gold pattern. But maybe the bodice go well with my jeans? ;D

Wickedvox, I agree about stripes. It can be a nightmare. But it was actually the fun part in this project, to let them point in different directions and create an effect.

Gem, the bow in the back might be my favourite part. It's so.... ka-booom!

This has been a  busy week so far that started on Sunday.

On Sunday, finished my friend, Jason, a second Barbossa Vest he ordered. Then made a French Hood by hand of which I need to get some black silk for the drape.

On Monday, then finished up 2 Nobleman's Shirts for VMS. I have 2 more hats to make for her before I send them out on Friday at the latest. Then the rest of the week, Alterations. No rest for the wicked. THank goodness I have a TV downstairs that helps me work when there is a lot to do.

This skirt is one that I have made out of a bedsheet, I love the way it drapes! I had dyed it a very shreiking color of green, so I tie dyed it with a hunter green. Again I love the way that it turned out but the first day that I wore it at faire it ripped in several places. So I am going to patch the holes with some of my scraps, in this picture you cant see them because I have already zigzag stitched them.

Next project

My Belle dress I quickly put it togeather to wear for childrens weekend this summer. I used my Moresca Max for the bodice shape I didnt have time to make a full out bodice so I made a cover so to say and stitched it to my Max, I had a yellow scarf for the drape thing that she has on her bodice. There are two seperate skirts, I tried to do the gathers in the skirt by pulling sections up and hand stitching them in place and well some ripped out through the weekend. Also I had a crinolin under the skirts, I dont have it under them in the picture because I couldnt find it also with working I cannot wear a hoop trust me it would not be pretty. So to get to the point here I am going to finish the bodice out into a boned bodice. And I am going to add straps and a shoulder drape thing that it attached, the scarf drove me NUTS. Then I am going to take a page out of Gem's book and attempt to attach the skirts to the bodice

Bertha neckline. Might help you knowing the name if you're in need of pattern or inspiration. If not, nevermind...  :D

Are you going to use long gloves as well? I think you'll look lovely.

Adriana Rose

Thank you for telling me what that was called. I am on the fence with the gloves. Oh and the picture that I took was a quick snap, the waist band doesnt show when I have it on the dummy right, my bother in law was being pain an mucking with my settings on her so the sizing was way off.

DonaCatalina

So far it looks good to me. Can't wait to see pics of her wearing it.

Thank you, Dona!  This has been my longest, most elaborate project ever & I've loved every minute of it. I'm kind of sad it will end, but my reward will be her joy in wearing it!

Finally my own progress report and since it has to be done by this Saturday, it's nearly there.

So, for that Italian inspired remake.  I bought a set of curtains from wal-mart that came with five pieces and plenty of fabric.  Drafted a pattern (thanks to a dress form at last!!) and added some stash trim.  I think it needs a brooch just to make me giggle and be all "Ever After" in my head (I do weird inside joke stuff like that).  The sleeves have yet to be done but they will be of matching fabric in a gaunlet sort of style and attach to the underdress.  The side of the overdress is going to have some pretty frogs or clasps.  And I'll have all my petticoats, which are not one the form.

Looks great, LadyMeg! I love the colors and the trim is so very pretty. Walmart curtains! Who would have thunk it!

Pretty, Meg! Curtains and tablecloths are two of my favorite sources for fabric. Is it more the brown color of the second picture or the gray of the first one?

I saw on facebook you're planning to wear it to MiRF this weekend. Bear in mind it's supposed to be chilly both days! Maybe you could wear a turtleneck under it ;)

Lovely work, Lady Meg!

I need to get to our local Goodwill and Salvation Army to see what I can find in Tablecloths to use for various things. Saving a pantload is nice.

The Denim Victorian is unique! Very cool!!

Speaking of Victiorian, I finally ordered the Truly Victorian Package. In my stash, I have some lovely Black Moree Taffetta that will make this. I plan to have this ready for CONVergence 2012.  Do the lower scooped neckline with the three-wuarter sleeve and more rounded at the back than a V shape.

Lady Meg that is BEAUTIFUL! And all "Gone with the Wind" inspired at that lol! (though I much prefer the Carol Burnett version, teehee [I also do inside jokes in MY head]). I will be at MiRF this Sunday and will keep an eye out for you and your dress! (Though, not in the BB stalker sense--creepy)

I am not at anywhere near the skill level of most of you, but I hope I can share. I am working on my kiddo's dress for faire. The chemise is done, and the kirtle is mostly done - needs hemming and I am trying to decide on trims. The red ribbons are placeholders. It laces under the arms, and I attached the back of the shoulder straps with eyelets and ribbons - they can be let out 2 more inches... I think she can wear this a solid two years at least.  ;D The chemise is of course, not h/a, but I think the kirtle is at least passaby H/a? Anyway, I am excited because it is so darn cute on her! Now I just need to figure out how to finish it off!

Now I have to do what I have really been dreading and start the Swiss Guard Uniform my husband requested. *sigh*
