Merlin the Elder

I'm just hanging around waiting to see some pix of Teague's coat that you're making for Old Dragon Breath Lord Dragon.

I know...every time I see a new post on this thread, it's quickquickclick to see if a pic has arrived.  ;D

Don't worry. There will be photos of the progression of the Teague coat. I have the buttons.

I need to finish a commission first, some Alterstions, then get the coat pieces cut out, the Ancthus Leaf pattern made. I also have a project for Lady Kett to start as well. All in the next several weeks.

No rest for the wicked.

Lady K, I seriously doubt that you're actually wicked. Being the proud owner of one of your creations, I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!

Hmmm...... embroidery to keep from eating cookies....BRILLIANT!!!!  I am not expeirenced in embroidery, so hopefuly trying doesn't drive me from cookies to whiskey.     ;D

Merlin the Elder

If I wanted to learn to embroider, how difficult would that be? We all know you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I don't know if that's applicable to old wizards or not. I've seen such beautiful embroidery done and it would be nice to be able to do it.  Maybe I should start a thread on the subject...better yet, someone who knows what they're doing maybe!!

Lady Gryphon

Merlin,

The craft isn't that hard to learn, it's the Mastery of it that takes a life time.  My Aunt handed my my first needle and Embroidry hoop when I was 5 that was over 50 years ago.  Like Our wonderful Lady K I use to do a lot of it in High School (think Dr. Hook, cover of the Rolling Stone here). I have taught a few classes, made a few projects, but my fingers and hands hurt too much now to do anything serious.

On Another note, the project above looks far from a first grade project.  You've done a first rate job.  Single color is harder to do, in my opinion, than multi color because one mistake  ends up being glaring to the eye.  I don't see any here.  Well done.
Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

I like little projects to take out and about with me.  I'm working on a Blackwork needlebook cover at the present.

I started the Lord of The Rings inspired gown for my client's daughter. After making adjustment notes based on photos sent to me after the 2nd Muslin, I altered the pattern just so. The gown will be fully lined in Broadcloth. The outer fabric is a Purple Cotton Quilters weight Broadcloth that will do well in Texas. The contrast is not period, but adds a nice Fantasy touch. I still have the collar part to put together and redo some things before it is finished.

Progress report. I have the sleves attached, along woth the collar part. Even with stay stitching the U part of the neckline, it's difficult to get a  curve to lay just right. But overall, I am pleased as to ho9ow this is turning out.

I still have the lining to put together, hem the dress. I am thinking about the trim at the hem line as well I think that would add a nice finish.

This is the Margo doublet I am working on for hubby.  This is my first experience using her patterns.

This has a black velveteen front, edged with gold braid piping,  same piping on the shoulder wings.
The collar is giving me fits. hubby has a large neck, so we will probably just leave it open and trim the collar with a pleated satin ruffle.   Is the collar supposed to be worn up (like a Nehru) or down (like a shirt)?   The illustration on the envelope seems to show the collar folded down.
I 'm planning on making black velveteen Venetian breeches with gold braid.
Hubby also wants a short cloak...
I may not get to my own dress...

What doesn't kill me-had better run.
