Lady Isabella

Rowen,
I wear a corset, and the clasps are the closure! I alternated between one "hook" and "eye" on each side. I didn't put any boning in. But the MA pattern does call for it. Not sure why I didn't........but it lies flat beautifully. And I'm no skinny minnie!
The sleeved are the MA paned sleeves. So easy!

Auryn

Lady Isabella
that is absolutely beautiful.
I love the clasp arrangement
and you look stunning in it

Spectacular!

And thanks for the reminder to alternate clasps; I have never done this, but have with hooks & eyes, and should try to remember when I make up my Elizabethan waistcoat. (Is waiting impatiently for fabric. Tappity tappity....)

I am sooooo stealing this idea for Hubby's doublet  ;).  I will use it on mine too!   I was just going to use hooks and eyes to close his doublet; then sew decorative buttons down the front, but this is so much nicer.  Thanks for the idea!
Where did you get your clasps?  I should order online the same time I order the aglets.

Really Really well done!  He will truly look the Lord of the Mannor.   I love your choice of solid and print.   I love it.

Wow, two beautiful doublets from Rowen and Lady Isabella! I'm inspired :-)

Awwww.....thanks everyone for your kind compliments!

Gem, I think I got the idea of the clasp placement from someone on these forums. ;)

Rowen, I got the clasps from Grannd.com back in 2008, they seem to be out of business now! So sad. I only paid $2.50 a pair back then!   "Romance Clasp, Antique Silver, 2 inch" this was on my invoice.

I did find some on eBay. Gold and Silver. One seller has a set of 12 for $54. Makes them about $4.50 each pair. OUCH! Another place sells them for $6.95, each pair (I think) ouch either way. I have been looking for some time now for these clasps but they are just sooooo expensive. In fact everthing I find is. I think JoAnn's sold them at one time, although I have not seen them there in recent months. I do like your idea of hooks and eyes and buttons sewn on top.

Your husbands doublet looks ammmmmazing! I love the fabrics. Please post pictures of him wearing it. I really like the edging you put on the collar. By the way, how did that turn out? As far as fit.

Lady I, have you tried Pillaged Village? They have a lot of the decorative clasps, and their prices are really good. I was able to find matches to some pewter buttons I got from JoAnn last summer, and I seem to recall that I paid less at PV than I had in the store.

When I did the clasps on my gamurra (which, oddly enough, were a JoAnn exclusive, a though that makes me giggle a little), I bought twice as many as I needed, in case I ever wanted to convert them to lacers. I haven't needed to do that yet, but I've often wondered if there's a use for extra male clasp halves! LOL

I checked my favorite site -Brazen Button-and the cheapest pair I found was $5.00  :-\  I need at least 10 sets=$50.00 eeek.
I will check pillaged village.  Thanks Gem

Lady Isabella-The collar is indeed too snug for closure, but I think it looks fine as it is.
I used some black ready made knife pleated grosgrain ribbon trim (I think it was 2.99 a yd) that I found at Hancock Fabric and sewed it into the top of the collar before I stitched down the lining giving the effect of a small ruff.    I have used the satin version as trim on french hoods to good effect  ;D  I hate pleating by hand.

Thanks to Gem, I found the exact clasps Lady Isabella used, in gold or silver at Pillaged village for $2.50 ea!
I ordered 25 so shipping is free!  I just finished the Venetian Breeches to match hubby's doublet tonight.  Now I need to make him a short cloak and I can start on my dress...
