Thats on my want to sew list!  I like my yellow Belle dress that I made last summer but it needs some work and I dont think I will have enough time to fix it.

Thought I'd put this here, since we all read this thread pretty religiously...

Hancock Fabrics is having a big sale today, and if you get their flyer there is an extra 10% off entire purchase coupon in it that is a rare event!  McCall's and Simplicity both 5/$5, and broadcloth for $1.49 yd...

Michael's is also having their clearance, with some extra coupons online.  There is a 25% off entire regular price purchase, as well...

Gorgeous color and work, Isabella!

Does anyone know if the sale at Hancock will be going on tomorrow too?

I was in there getting new cutting wheels today.  The lady ahead of me in line had a purchase subtotal of $129.00. we waited while she pulled all the coupons out of the flyer.  She paid $53.00 and change after the sale and discounts!

Loving this color and those sleeves are gorgeous.   Have you decided on trim?  This looks lovely as it is!

Thanks!  I gave up on a trim.   Instead, I wore it with my beaded belt and it looked pretty neat that way.  I might wear it with a brooch too next time and a decorated partlet rather than adding trim.  The trims I had just didn't work for what I was going for.  The fun part is, the trim I was going to use has a LOT of yardage and I have a "matching" trim that probably was made around the same time.  Those I might use to make a pair of basket weave sleeves and add the matching trim to the neckline of the dress and outline the forepart.

Isabella, that is lovely! love the colours and cut.

If you want the distinctive Florentine look, trims are the way to go. However, there were many regions around Tuscany which did the basic style, but without trims. Duchess Giulia Varano in Urbino, Marche (east of Tuscany) was depicted in a dress very like yours, but with golden monograms on neck opening and sleeves, and with a funky partlet and golden underskirt:

So you're definitely period!

Thanks!   That was actually one of the inspirations (this portrait was on a wine bottle I bought as a birthday present for the friend whose party I dressed up for!  I figured, I should just leave the dress as it was and therefore, she'd know exactly who gave it to her since my "picture" was on the bottle.   ;D )

Another was this one at the Walter's Art Gallery:

I just need to finish my partlet to wear with it later on this winter and a new coat!   Because we all need new coats.  ;D

Lady Isabella

Isabelladangelo,
Absolutely beautiful!

A friend of mine made a partlet nearly identical to the one in that portrait, and it turned out stunning though it was a work in progress for a few months while she made the tiny gathers and sewed each with a ruby crystal.
I'm pretty sure she started with a McMasters partlet out of silk organza, with the  chest and shoulders cut very generously to provide for the extra material needed for all those tiny puffs.  She wears it with a red and gold brocade gown cut like Isabella's.   It was worth the work for all the compliments she gets on it.

I can beat that...  :D  My pre-sale price total was 132.42, and I only paid 27.53.  I bought 5 patterns, 2 cloak clasps (50% off), 6 yds of turquoise chiffon (came out to $1.05 per yd), 2 yds of turquoise broadcloth (1.79 per yd), 4 yds of canary yellow broadcloth ($1.34 per yd), and 10 yds of unbleached muslin (.53 per yd).  This was including my 10% off entire order coupon, of course.

I spent roughly the same at Michael's yesterday, as well, for some things I've been needing to get started on another project, but didn't do nearly as well there, even though I had a few coupons, also.

I believe it will be continuing until this coming Saturday.  You should be able to find out on their website.
