Reply to your random, Jack... I had my A/C go out a few years back. I had one of those warranty things at the time. My background is engineering, and electronics troubleshooting.  The guy came over, I told him several things that should have given him a clue that there was a wiring or control circuit issue. "Needs a compressor," says he. "BS," thought I, but I said, "I don't think so. It acts more like..." whatever. It's been a few years. They put in what they said was a $1200 compressor (HVAC is a package unit). It didn't fix it. It was doing the exact same thing. They found a loose wire after a couple of days. I was without cooling for 6 days of the hottest year in a while because the way that it's done now is replace parts until it works, instead of troubleshoot and fix the actual problem.

The technician was a novice, who had to take pictures and make a few phone calls to his shop for advice.  Long story, shortened:  The circuit board will take 2 weeks to get here, and it will cost me $600, but they can replace the whole furnace tomorrow for $3,300.  I'm selling the house, soon, so no new furnace.

May you sell before you need the warmth, Sir.

Thanks, RefMom!  I will stay at gf's house and/or wrap warmly in blankets and kilts.  After all, I live in Texas, not Minnesota.

A week later and my butt STILL hurts- a lot!  At least it is colorful and interesting to look at.

(I pulled a stupid and fell on my cedar chest- landing, very painfully, on my tuckus.  I'm bruised and sore and have an odd lump in the middle of one of the bruises.  Also, tailbone issues.  But it's getting better every day!)

Dang snow, I haven't checked the snowthrower yet!
