Hospitaller

Actually starting to get a bit excited about a few faire days this year. It's been a stressful 14 months since GE Oil & Gas bought us, as well as buying a house in the midst of it all :o, and a day or two to lose myself in another world is just what the doctor ordered.

Keep counting them down Fraser!

so... I have new knees, at least in part  ;D
As those on my FB are aware *pokes Fraser for being a Luddite* I have new cartilage in the knees and am now doing physical rehab to get the muscles and such built up around them to strengthen them enough to get back to 85-90%. The pain management meds I am on have me back on my feet without cane or crutches, and active as hell. Sooo... be ye fairly warned  8)

We will be out AHE and Barbarian camping, still looking for folks to camp with Barbarian since McShug won't be there. Suggestions?

Zuckerberg is a traitor of the highest order.  All he can hope for, when he dies, is to be buried in secret so no one violates his grave. :o  >:(

I may be a Luddite but I'm MUCH farther down "The List" than some of my more...err..."Vocal" friends.  :P

Heck, Rani...an open sided log pavilion with a large fire pit or two in the middle...rough cut tables and benches...throw some hay on the floor and some logs to use as individual seats.

Ta Da!  Viking Meade Hall.

Set up a short wood rail fence around it, to help with crowd control and card everyone.  It would make another meeting place where us "commoners" could congregate and socialize...and not have to deal with the younguns at the bonfire.  Put it back in the woods...one of the new areas down the hill from where McShug/BS/PR/Time Warp pitch camp.  It's attraction would be more for the old school/die hards...basically, the clans and older folk.  You could even rent it out to a large enough group...and have it open Friday night as well.

Just an idea I've been kicking around the brainpan for a few years now.  ;)

Meade hall, tavern, pub... six of one, etc.  It would just be nice to have somewhere to sit, relax and socialize in the campgrounds of an evening without having to traipse all over hell and gone to see everyone, and definitely without the idiotic chaos of the bonfire!  I wouldn't even care if they had anything for sale, as long as we were allowed to bring our own.  That way, just so long as everyone made sure to pick up after themselves and not break things they wouldn't even need to pay anyone to staff the place, either!  I would want Scally to be able to come hang out also, though, so if it was to be run by mgmt and there was some sort of carding going on there should be a simple hand stamp or something to show that you've already been carded, so those who have no way to leave their young ones in someone else's care can also come enjoy the company of friends.  I can't see them putting up anything like that, though, unless there was the potential for a lot of profit for them, so I doubt it would be back in the woods.

Hopefully they will just decide to go that direction with the "pavilion" at some point, since it's at least already there.  It's a bit of a hike, but no more than any evening walkabout, I suppose, and it would at least be close to the shower house, if I'm not mistaken.  Give everyone a chance to freshen up, change into feast wear and head off to Evening Gathering!  It would be packed every night, especially if they opened it up on Friday evenings before Faire!  I'm sure they could find a few performers to provide a bit of music, maybe some juggling or storytelling, for whatever the hat will bring, or even a bit of "canned" music and someone to lead a few country dances.  That would draw a far larger crowd than the "exclusive" parties they are planning now... and with no cover, or only a very few dollars at most, the place would be packed every night.  Particularly if they had a small "pub" menu, as well.  A stew, a sandwich, something on a stick and a loaded baked potato with a couple of sides, an ale and a cider on tap and a house wine should be more than enough to satisfy hungry and thirsty gatherers... and let them feel like they are still at Faire well into the evening.

I know we would make every effort to make it down for that... even though the 1000 mile round trip costs more than we've been able to afford for a couple of years, now.

Awesome news about the new knees, B... but now what are you going to tell all those folks who come up to you in Skyrim asking for directions?  ;)  lol  I'll be needing a couple of those, myself, one of these days.  Seriously, it's wonderful that you will be able to do things you haven't been able to in such a long time, and I know you're excited to see how far your recovery will take you!

Good to see you around also, Hos! Congratulations on the new house!  I'm sure you and your Lady will be most happy in your new home!  I wish we were going to be able to make it down to see you both this year.

Wow, I know I've been begging for rain but didn't want it all at once!  Over 6 inches in less than 5 hours is a bit much for parched ground!
