I had to get something I did not have for a group event planned for January and February with the GBACG.org group I am with.  We are making Tudors or Henricians so I needed Silk Taffeta and we were at the Fabric Mart in Downtown L.A., I found Silk Taffeta for $11.25 per yard!  If I had wanted just white they had 10 yards for $8.00 per yard!  ;D

So I have spent money!! But it is for a good cause!!!!

Here's a pic of the two lovely fabrics I got for next to nothing. 10 yrds each

The green fabric was more of an impulse buy so I'll have to figure out what to do with it.

Well, our local Fabricland is closing down and everything is marked down.  So I have enough material for 6 upcoming garbs.  (but only 4 more festivals to attend.......I think I'm out of control) And today I learned that our Walmart is discontinuing all fabric and trims, and marked them down to clear.  I walked out with 10 meters of tartan.  What the hell am I going to do with all that tartan?  But for $1.94, how could I pass it up?  I could probably make garb and go to the highland games next year........:)  I've seen a few patterns for scottish lasses, and they looked so cute....maybe someday:)  Also bought over 100 meters of pearly trim for 25cents a meter.

I'm looking at all of this fabric and trim, and I'm STILL feeling the itch to buy more.....I need serious help.

You haven't had enough coffee unless you can thread a sewing machine while it's running.

We went to Jo ann's today with a 40% off coupon to buy 3 yards of white 100% cotton twill to dye.  Turns out they had 3.5 yards of flamingo pink  twill at 50% off.

We didn't have to dye the stuff for our project.  And since it hasn't been 90 days since we bought the dye we can return it .

did i mention all notions were 50% off too.   ;D
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I got put in charge of my nephew's 2 suits being made for the upcoming season (doublet and slops, blue and green). Finding the fabrics was far more time consuming than expected. I ended up hunting the fabrics down because if Momma was in charge, he wouldn't wear them. 11 year old's are quick to throw claims of "flamer", "pansy" and a few others that cannot be written of due to rules and taste and content. We wanted Noble Class for him. I hit all sorts of fabrics stores here in town and several interior decorating stores (upholstery stuff-n-such).  The hard material was the ornate middle section parts. We searched under the usual names  "damask", "brocade", and "chenille". On eBay, we through in "renaissance" or "medieval" and got lots of hits for the custom trims. We kept away from the "paisley" looking materials. Someone emailed my wife and told her we needed to search using the term "medallion". It then took us less than 20 minutes to find the last fabric for the green doublet.

We're finally getting some of the accessory shipments in. Medals and a couple of pairs of chains of office, the most unusual piece is a very ornate brass tankard from a antiquities auction out of Sweden. I'm not able to decide which way would be the best way to attach it to his belt (still waiting on the matching buckles from Thailand). Would you use a snap on or clasp (possibly will be made with type of backup safety method to make sure he doesn't loose it)?

My twin sister has her Bachelors Degree in Clothing and textiles. She owns $6000 worth of fabric cause she worked both retail and for a major fabric store which gave her a 40% discount off everyday. She bought herself a dress form, and i found her another, new in box, for $20. She also has a sewing machine and a serger.

...I got into costuming, so while I can't sew anywhere near her level, Im starting to match her in fabric supplies..... :P

I just came back from our Wal*Mart, which is still ordering materials. Anyways, I saw the sales clerk unloading a bolt of this lovely sage green velveteen. I tried to resist, but I bought the whole 12 yards at $2.00 a yard!  :o I already have a few yards, so this will make one heck of a dress or pillows and throw.....lol!

First let me say that really is some gorgeous material.

Second I spent several hours in JoAnns the other day because of their wonderful 40% off coupons coupled with 10% off total coupons helping several people pick out the right material and trims for new outfits only to find the most wonderful material for my own outfit.  By the end of the shopping trip I was out of coupons everybody had their material and patterns and I also had my material without paying a dime for it.  I think I just crossed the line from fabriholic to fabric-ho.  My fabric was purchased for me in exchange for sewing a couple of the outfits.  I know I should feel dirty and disgusting but I just feel great staring at my new fabric.

I need a program to save me from myself.   ;D  :D  ;)
Be the change you want to see.

Hello Fellow Fabriholics!

I know I should not be giving you yet more thoughts on purchasing more fabric, however, if you are in Joann's and you go to the pattern aisle? Look for a magazine called Fall Trends I think it is from Simplicity.  It has 2- 50% off coupons, 2- 40% off coupons and 2- 30% off coupons.  They are good until December!!!

Plus if you all check in your stores? They have Bamboo/Linen!!! And Cotton/Linen!!! My store had it for $8.99 so with the 50% off it was only $4.50 per yard.
