Say your two week visit back home got extended to a year, and you haven't seen any of your friends in 7 months. Having heard that two of them will be in the next state over in October, you are excited to drive 8 hrs to see them....and the Ren Faire that will be 20mins away from them. hehehe I swear I'm just as excited to see them....really..... ;)

Pen.Ren Faire here I come!!!

You know the season of the year, by the costumes/garb located in the backseat/trunk of your car.

Merlin:  I heard that too about creating a tartan.  It's only worn by the family/clan of the heroine though. The other 3 clans are Macintosh, Dingwall and MacGuffin. While the tartans are a relatively new thing (supposedly) I would hope that if there are tartans attached to these names/clans that Pixar would have used the correct ones.
Off to research tartans!!

I came across this one for McGuffin on Wiki-I just love it:

In fiction, a MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or other motivator that the protagonist (and sometimes the antagonist) is willing to do and sacrifice almost anything to pursue, often with little or no narrative explanation as to why it is considered so desirable. A MacGuffin, therefore, functions merely as "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction".

McIntosh is a real clan...

The Dingwall family name is a Sept (subordinate family) name for Clan Munro, and as such is also real.

I want to know how Pixar came to chose these names for Brave ^_^

...someone tells you the new trend in home furnishing is sparse. I looks around and my house is furnished in SCA, Rennie eclectic. Guess we're not trendy.
Welcome to my home.   ;)

MacIntosh is apparently for Steve Jobs. Not sure about Dingwall.

You have ever had to tell someone "Febreeze is not deodorant"

You read it 2 or 3 times and don't get it.  Then you realize they mean "Huzzah."

one person's opinion on the names.
Having set the action in the 10th century, there aren't a lot of modern references. The movie is dedicated to Steve Jobs (Macintosh). MacGuffin is a plot device and a movie term related to the late British director Alfred Hitchcock. Dingwall is the name of Scottish place near Inverness as well as a brand name for custom electric guitars. There's also a cute reference to voicemail.

You schedule your haircut and color a few days before faire, just so your hair looks good the entire run.

You are still sewing right up until it's time to head to faire...sometimes in the car on the way as well.

You are in a fabric store for business, and see a guy in the upholstery trims area looking confused.  Being nice you ask if he could use some help.  He replies, "It is rather geeky, you wouldn't understand."  You look in his cart and see, sparkly blue  polyester fabric and long curtain rod with a ball end thing, and he is trying to decide to get the silver decorative rope or the gold.
You reply, "i don't know about geeky, but if you are making a wizard costume, I would go  with the blue cotton sparkly sky fabric due to the heat of ren faires, and either the gold or silver belt would be nice."  then start to walk off.  He laughs and stops you  by saying, " OK MAYBE... you would understand. how do I..."   ;D

Add in that you walk in the fabric store and the clerks have set aside rolls of flamingo print ribbon, flannel and fleece flamingo print fabric, and the lady in the embroidery machine area found a cool new flamingo embroidery design... I'm not sure if it is rennie, but I THINK the store people know me a wee bit too well.

It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

As a male and budding renaissance costume sewer, all the ladies at the cutting counter at Joann's recognize me on sight now.  I've been in there so much buying sewing supplies (didn't have anything other than a used sewing machine), looking at fabrics, trims, etc.   I get a lot of the "don't see many guys in here buying fabric."  Then they see the type of fabric I'm buying and they're like "oh, you must be one of those renaissance festival people"  :)
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I regularly have people stop my family at faire, and complement my wife on our garb, to which she replies "Actually, my husband does all of it." I get a mix of reactions form that.
I've also had one run in fabric shopping where the lady at the cutting table said it was real nice of me to go to the fabric store for my wife, and would I like help making sure I was getting the right stuff.
