I was telling one of my co-workers (who hails from New Orleans) about your plight tonight, festmum..."She's in a little house with a few friends, some cats and a three-legged dog..."  He replied, "Sounds like a country song!"  Hope you're ready to do some serious songwriting when this adventure is done!

Oh, that would be a good  country song.

" I was sitting in a little house with my friends, some cats, and a three legged dog, in a middle of a fierce storm. We had no water, we had no power, but we had our rum  to keep us  warm   ."    :)

Continue  to be  safe  everyone !

Sending prayers and good thoughts your way, festmum.  We wish you good fortune in this stormy night.

Lady Abigail

We (my husband and I) have been working in Dulac, La had to evacuate from the hurricane and just got back to the Houma area this evening... return to work in the morning and while in transit will click a few picture of the aftermath and post it on photobucket, when I get that all done I'll put a link on here to give everyone an idea of the damage from the eye of the beast.

When I got up this morning, the first thing I asked Steve (who got up earlier) was about the hurricane.  When he said he read it hit The Turks, we looked at each other and said "Festmum."  At the same time.

If anyone hears from her, please post it here.  Our prayers continue for her and for all the others affected by the hurricanes.

Festmum was my first waking thought, too.  We know that even if you're OK, you may not have power for a while, festmum.  But we're waiting to hear from you and hoping for the best.

I've been checking the updates on CNN compulsively since I got up this morning, all I'm reading is that the damage is really bad.

Best wishes Festmum!  We're all thinking about you.

From the descriptions on TV, they're going to be without power and cell service for a while.  I know we'll hear something the moment she can get through.

From the Associated Press today--

QuoteIke causes heavy damage, heads toward Cuba

Associated Press - September 7, 2008 12:23 PM ET

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos (AP) - The damage is severe in the Turks and Caicos islands after a pounding from Hurricane Ike's 135 mile-an-hour winds.

The storm ripped off roofs, damaging more than 80% of the homes on Grand Turk and South Caicos islands. Fishermen's boats were sunk by the storm. There's no word yet on deaths or injuries.

Look out here comes "IKE" and I hate to say this, but I really think its going to make land fall some time on the 12th between Port Arther TX. and Houston TX. as a Cat3 I wish it would turn south and hit Venezuela, that would give Chavez something new to blame on the Yankees up North.

I heard a similar report but I understood it that that 90% was not destroyed but sustained varying degrees of damage.

I've seen what a cat 4 can do up close. In 2004 Charley  made landfall 30 miles from my home. There was alot of destruction but alot of buldings made it through with only roof damage. Keeping hope.
