Thanks to everyone for the encouraging words  ;D.  Now to see if I can survive cartridge pleating without going nutz.

I have a question...How wide should the farthingale be for the Margo Anderson skirts?  I already have 3, and really don't want to make another just for this dress.   Besides, I need to make ruffs too; which is yet another new experience.

Rowan - I really like they way you even went so far as to match up the pattern in the different elements of the bodice, that kind of attention to detail will pay off with a gown that should get a lot of second looks! It looks very nice.

CenturiesSewing - I agree with Gem.  The cut and fit speaks volumes and the subtle use of color is really nice.  You could dress this up or down with different lower sleeves and forparts as time goes on - it should be very versatile for you.

Lady Katherine - per your usual! Very nice.

I just love that you use "plain", subdued fabric and rely on the cut. It looks absolutely fabulous!

Indeed.  I really do have to echo what Ms. Operafantomet has said.  Your gown is beyond lovely and fits SO WELL.  Your skill and dedication to your craft really do show through.

It vexes me that the general public looks at this type of gown and thinks its construction is "no big deal" and then are just dazzled by poorly made gowns with lots of trim, bling and shiney bits.  /shakes head....  Makes me want to give people an education in sewing and fitting.   :D

There is certainly no substitute for skilled custom work, as is done by CenturiesSewing and Lady Kathleen Olmstead, who are well-researched professionals!

Goodness!  I love stalking this thread!

This is what I'm working on right now.  It isn't Faire related but I'm doing research on that project now (^_^).  It's Regency inspired but it's missing something.  This is all a stash project and cannibalized from an old dress so I had limited fabric to work with.  Maybe a chemisette though what I have left with a sheer curtain panel in the color of the dark maroon.

...and now I go back to sewing and looking at all the pretties on here!

Thanks.  We are having fun making it.  Lots of opportunities for little subtle details!

The skirt is on the Venetian Gown. There are some things to be done yet by hand as well as some points I want to redo to clean things up that I amj not happy with. Almost done. I have a Pillbox to make for this as well.

That really is rather fine.  (Hmmm...  What have I got in the stash that would make a nice Venitian?  {Bad Kitty!  No vermin for you!  You have too many other plans in the wings, plus CUSTOMERS!})
