Why be mundane when you can be a Rennie?!

This weekend is the Oklahoma Steampunk Expo, and I have to decide in the next few minutes whether I'm going all three days, or just one.  Thankfully, kids are free, so Scally can come with me any day, and tickets aren't very expensive at all... but the next few days are going to be incredibly stressful, with meetings and inspections regarding my housing, and a construction crew that's supposed to come in and tear out all the cabinets and counter-tops in my kitchen and bathrooms, and replace them with something... functional.  No telling how long that will take, and I'll need to be here to make sure they don't destroy anything else, since they've already done close to $300 worth of damage to my personal property, and they weren't even working on MY place at the time!!!

(sigh)  It would have been nice to have more than 16 hours notice that I have to move everything out of my kitchen and baths, particularly since I have a 10:50 meeting this morning...  STRESS!!!

Oh, so do I!!!  From what I understand all the vendor spaces have been sold out, and they even had to open up new space in the hotel for more, so they must be expecting a good turnout!  I still don't know what I'm going to wear, and I have no real time to figure it out between now and then, with the total chaos surrounding my house right now...  I might just have to go naked!!!  ::)  :D

Wish you could come up for the weekend...

So, I've finally manage to talk my man into dressing up for faire.  Yay!  (I'm so tired of dragging a naked man around.)  But, he's chosen to go what else but steampunk time-traveler.  Hey, it's a start.  He's worked a long time to come up with something.

To get him "geared up" we've gone to few local smaller events in our new sp.  However, this is the first time all day at ren faire during broad daylight, and it's Scarborough of all places.  :)  We're not too sure of the response we'll get.  There were rumors that a steampunk invasion will occur this weekend.  Wonder who all is donning their gadgets and heading out this weekend.  I'd like him to have friendly faces his first trip dressed.  **Crossing fingers that he'll enjoy it and want to do it again**

Thanks for sharing all the wonderful links.  I spent half the day perusing this thread.  :)  It's been awhile on the forum here for me, and I totally forgot about this steampunk thread.

Mieljolie, what a wonderfully steamy couple you make!  Very nice ensembles.

Thanks Taffy!  Your own awesome characters have been really inspiring to us.  Will you be venturing up to Scarby this year?

No, I'm moving at the end of the month and funds are squeeky tight.  Then in June I've got A-Kon in Dallas to attend - I'll be sporting some duds for this!  Makes me wish for my own personal papparazi.

Congrats on the new place.  I don't envy the moving part.  Can't wait to see pics of the duds!

Careful - I work in the area.  And since I'm participating in my own Project 365, I'm always looking for an interesting shot to add to the collection.   ;D

mieljolie, you guys looks great! So cute

So I was at the mall this evening and went into Claire's jewelry. Amongst the neon colored tu-tus and those jelly bracelets, I found some awesome steampunk jewelry! I was quite stunned really. They had this bracelet made of zippers with a little gear, military, and star charm that I really liked. -  http://data.whicdn.com/images/7660567/54667-390X350_thumb.jpg?1299330553

These aren't the best pics, no close-up's I'm afraid, but they also had these 2 necklaces that I really liked too.

I think the bracelet was 8$ or so and the necklaces were 10$ and 12$, but I forget. I didn't get anything, but I think it's cool to see stuff like this actually popping up in 'normal' stores. I know they've had keys and birdcages for forever, but those only go so far before I have to turn to the internet for my steamy stuff.  If you have a Claire's near by, go check it out.

Merlin the Elder

The jeweler that I've purchased my many dragon rings from at Scarborough is starting to do some steampunk pieces. It's not something that I'm very familiar with, but you might drop by and take a look.  It's at Dragon's Nest Jewelry next to the Ivanhoe stage on Taylor Lane.  Tell him Merlin sent you and maybe I'll get a discount when I buy my next ring!

I'm more of a DIY jewelry person.  Why not make your own?  You can get parts at flea markets and secondhand stores very easily and at good prices.  I've got a project I want to finish with the zippers I take out of old clothes.  I've also made a "time-turner" necklace for a friends b-day out of broken clock parts and recycled jewelry pieces:
