Calliope, you are so right! I love middles because of the emphasis on fit and silhouette over "bling!" LOL

And YES, pretty please a shot with less apron!

Indeed she does!

Awesome Job, Wickedvox! The fit on the bodice is great - and for Middles, tailoring is KEY to good looking garb.  ;D

Yay for the Middles Lovers!!!  Your skill as a tailor really shines through when you don't have all the trim and doo dads to hide behind.  The big and shiney gowns and suits always get the ooohhh's and aaahhhh's because of the shiney bits and the cool trims.  However, when someone in the know looks at your Middle class outfit and goes OOOOHHHHH!!!!!   :o   Yeah - that's awesome.

This is the only picture I have of it so far, but this is my finished kirtle.  Going to work on sleeves for it next.

OOH - VERY Nice!  Are those hand bound eyelets? Those are lovely!

It's a little tedious to do them at first, but it really pays off - they are as sturdy as they are attractive.

Thank you everyone!! And I've got two MiRFers in here?! Please grab me if you see me walking through--I'd love to meet some R/F board members in the flesh! I *adore* Mary Jane! She has no idea, but I'll never leave her alone now lol! I"m like a lost puppy dog, once you feed me I'll never leave your porch!

And yes, while I appreciate the time and skill of a royal outfit, I much more prefer the simple lines and clean look of a well fitted middle class outfit. A kirtle will most *certainly* be next since I feel vindicated in my skills :D

Another MI Rennie here.  Congrats on your costume, it looks great!

Thanks for the compliments!  Yes, there were 21 hand sewn eyelets.  Took a while to learn how to do it well, but was definitely worth it.

Rowan MacD

Love the clean lines and the colors are wonderful!

I agree on the eyelets-tedious to do but wonderful to have. They don't pull out. ;)
What doesn't kill me-had better run.

To tie in with insidiousraven and her lovely eyelets, it was the generous and talented Mary Jane who taught me how to do them!

As for me, you can find me every Saturday at MIRF - look for those crazy Italian Courtesans, wherever we may be in the village -  I'm the one in cinnamon and blue. (As soon as I can find a good picture of this year's gown, I'll post it here.)

Wickedvox

Ser Niall--I was watching for your green doublet lol!! I'll keep a-lookin!

Calliope--I will keep an eye out for you as well! I saw some lovely Italian Renaissance and noted them b/c I don't tend to see it done very often!

Hmm...maybe we should move this over to the MIRF board and alleviate these patient people from our jawing lol!

Still working on it :)  I probably won't be at the faire until later in September.  My lady and I prefer the cooler weather then.

My Italian Renn, 1500's style, in purple linen with a hand sewn green linen apron.  I took these photos at the end of the day which is why I look a bit interesting but the dress still looked fine!  :-)

I can't believe nobody took photos of you and that DARLING dress for you!!

Now I want a colored apron for my coral colored dress.   :-\

isabelladangelo

LOL!  I know some people did - but the pictures are on their cameras and I forgot to ask one with mine.  Oh well!  I rather like having an apron -it's useful for wiping your hands as well as just adding that bit of color when sleeves are impractical.

CenturiesSewing

Isabella, I'm liking the color scheme and fit. Curved front opening?

isabelladangelo

Thank you!  It's a side opening dress.  If you click on the second photo, you can zoom in on one of the side openings.
