Here is my first Italian gown (more of an Ever After gown).... paisley cotton velvet, bodice is lined in linen; smock is muslin with gold silk sleeves.  Gauntlets attach with ribbon and brass lacing rings, and I made the gown lace up on both sides AND in the back, so that it fits several sizes.  On sale on eBay right now, but I just wanted to show it off... although I've been told it looks kinda creepy standing in my driveway without a head....like a medieval ghost! The dress is much larger than my AnneBoleyn (my dress dummy) - it fits much better on a proper-sized lady.

ahhhhh  a few days away and so many new and wonderful things here to look at.  So hard to keep up.  Great job everyone.  Hopefully I can post some finished projects soon.  Now that my festival is over and hubby is home, life might...might... get normal enough for me to finish things up.  yeah!

More and more pretty things from everyone!!!! This thread has really inspired me to get off of my behind and get to work for the new faire season!  ;D ;D ;D

I finally finished my new hat! I have been working on this hat for a couple of months, but really started to focus on it a couple of weeks ago. I started out with the Margo Anderson tall hat pattern, which I have used before. I wanted a slightly different silhouette, so I messed around with the plastic canvas until I had something a little less like a top hat. Still not perfect, but a bit better. I just finished it, and had to share!

This is a view more towards the back. For some reason, I always like to add a white feather to my noble character's hat...

A more frontal view

Close up of the "jewel" on the hat band. Christmas ornament, of course! I took off the extra "stuff" until I was left with this filagree element. It had a hole in the center, so I added an orphaned pearl and "diamond" earring to it, for a bit more pop.

My Lynn McMasters hat patterns just arrived this morning, so I can get started on another hat this weekend! (and bad, bad me, I ordered another pattern this morning, while wondering when the first set was going to get here...)

Let me know what you think! (goes back to dreaming about all of the hats she wants to make....)

Awesome!

I'm such a hat girl -- this is great!

I like the way you tailored the peacock feathers.

And the best part it, the plastic canvas breathes, so your head doesn't get over-heated.  :)

Thanks for all of the kind words everyone! I'm working on another hat now, in between packing and yesterday's "Can't Stop the Serenity" event in Des Moines. The hat making is definitely stress-relief right now!

Photos of Lady de Laney's newest Hat, an Arched Elizabethan Tall Hat...

The hat is made from 2 layers of sturdy buckram, millenery wire at the Brim, lower and upper parts of the crown, as well as Crown top. Bias tap covers the wire. There is also layers of flannel(mulling) to provide a smooth surface for the velveteen. I used Duct tape to secure the crown at the back seam. Who would have thought that Duct Tape would prove such a useful tool for hat making?

I secured the Velveteen to the Crown top with Duct Tape  before I set in the rest of the Crown fabric for hand sewing. The Brim has a sweat band that also secures the hat on the head. The inside of the Crown is lined in Green Cotton Broadcloth. The Crown is hand sewn down onto the brim. I did not find a suitable brooch to finish off the trim that makes the hat band. I figure she has one that will work. The brim is finished with 2 strips sewn together 2 1/2" wide for a bias tape in the velveteen.
