Oh sticky, dollinks!!!  I've started putting a few things together myself, and I think this is going to be lots of fun!  I'm imagining I can find a couple pair of old round lens glasses to customize, and the lamp parts and  pipe fittings depts. of Lowe's and/or Home Depot will more than likely supply many of my accessories.  Gears are fun to play around with, also!

I'm having visions of the crew of the SkyShark...    ;D

Taffy, will you go more punk, then?  I'm thinking this can become really creative, and all of us together could completely wow the Faire!

Rani, you threw me w/"punk" - I'm of an age that that phrase denotes an anorexic kid in a purple mohawk, slashed cigarette jeans held together w/oversize safety pins and a record album cover kilt.  I'm thinking more neo-Victorian and not so comic-y?  So please to explain, dollink!  I am loving the Skyshark!

Groomporter - looking awesome!  Truly a gentleman at ease at the helm of a dirigible.

Thanks

I've never cared for the term Steam "punk", especially since I'm more about neo-Victorian with SciFi bits than some of the post-apocalyptic, or overly industrialized themes, but punk seems to be the term that has stuck unfortunately. It seems to have evolved out of cyberpunk ("a science fiction genre noted for its focus on "high tech and low life". ")

But there are even sub-genres like dieselpunk which is basically Steampunk but set in more of an early 20th century era with gas engines and art deco influences instead of steam and Victorian.

Oh BTW, a while ago I was playing around a custom Steampunk Google Search Engine that is set to search only the steampunk-related websites that have been listed in its preferences.

Groomporter,"high tech and low life" does clarify the situation immensely.  Too, too messy.  I prefer to have a proper tea, adequately armed, in a civilized manner.  Your kindness in explaining the differences are much and truly appreciated, kind sir.

Sounds like I ain't the only one thinking sky pirate.  Not much at the thrift stores this week.  Hoping I don't have to get a lot from ebay.  Rather have stuff no one has already seen.  I do have my army surplus guy looking for a few particulars for me though.

Taffy, by "more punk" I did mean a bit more of the industrialized look, rather than just the frills associated with strict Victorian, although there are ways of mixing the two to get a very unique look that gives a nod to the era while allowing a great deal more creative license in creating garb.  I won't be going quite so period, and plan to go just a little more industrial with my garb, although more in the "steam" vein, I think.  I love the look of the gear jewelry, and all the tiny "clanks" just fascinate me, so I'll probably have all sorts of little machines and gadgets.  I've also been thinking about how I want to be "armed"... and that will require quite a bit of thought, as well as many trips to the Army Surplus (btw, great suggestion, Grov!), I'm sure!  I'm envisioning more of the Adventuress/Sky Pirate look myself, and I even have a full length caped duster I'll be wearing if it's chilly.

I've been gathering a few pics for ideas the last few weeks, and I'll post some of them later, when I've had a chance to load them into photobucket...  I'm starting to get pretty excited, now!  LOL

Rani - That makes senses and sounds more fiendish than frothy- buahaahaa!  The caped duster sounds absolutely dreamy and sky pirate.  Please post photos as your plans become more gelled - this will be so much fun!

I'm toying with an idea for using pieces of an old dark brown suede bomber jacket that I've taken apart to cover a corset with, and I think it might just be the icing on the cake!  Fiendish (with a nice dollop of sexy thrown in) is just the look I'm shooting for!!!  Seems you know me too well, grrlie!!!  Aaahahahaha!!!!!

A bomber corset.  OMG - that'll be so swoonworthy, lust inducing and kick A all at the same time.  I'm so jealous that you could look at an bomber jacket and think *corset*.   You know I'm waiting for pictures, right?

I have to admit one of the things I'll not do is add random non-functional gears or cogs to what I wear.

Maybe on a ring or amulet.  Actually brainstorming on functional gadgets while the topic is fresh. (not telling) It's a welcome mental retreat.
