I bought a used lens for my camera and took it out to a local park to test.  Encountered a sizeable grasshopper
and got this shot from about 18 inches.  Anybody wanna go fishing?   ;D

lordwriothsley

I'll take you up on that fishing trip if the offer still stands Sir Martin.  ;D

How many of you guys are into or were into metal model military figures? A long long time ago I was really into making figurines. Military and fantasy were my favorite subjects. Well, after 30 some years I have one or two that have survived the trials of father time (and a house full of kids). Here's a shot of my all time favorite figure. It was modeled after my oldest brother during his time in Vietnam.

Anyway, I shot this while playing around with a Sigma EF-500 DG Super off camera in full manual mode at 1/2 power with a 3/4 CTO gel. The flash was fired with a CTR-301P wireless trigger through a small shoot through umbrella. If you don't pay attention to the roughness of the figure the shot turned out pretty nice. The background was cobbled together using a black foam core board and a miniature Bamboo plant one of my daughters bought for the kitchen table.

I volunteer for a local 7-mile road race. This year, it was the USATF 7-Mile American National Championship. The volunteer job I do puts me in prime position to get good shots. This is the men's 4th place finisher, Brian Olinger. He ran 7 miles in 33 minutes and 29 seconds, one minute and 4 seconds behind the winner, Meb Keflezighi. This is my favorite shot of the top finishers because I caught him in mid-stride, and he looks neat airborne over his shadow.
