I really do think the economy is bouncing back now.... look at all our good friends on here getting jobs again after such a long time without!!!

Huzzah to economic bounceback and our fearless president!!!  (I don't want to start a political discussion here, so if you hate the president or don't think he's helped, then that's your opinion and thats fine, just like my opinion is just that)

We are very lucky to live in an area that has not been hit as hard or for as long as much of the rest of the country.

Trust me, while I was on active duty I was talking to guys who said that the unemployment rates in their areas of their states were tremendous, far higher than the 9.6% national average. Texas is still at 6.5% - 6.8% percent, which is a third less than the national average, and there are still jobs available. Some industries are having cutbacks, but others are stable or even booming.

The real national rate is around 16% were my sister lives in southwest PA its around 35%.  Since that is coal country things are only going to get a lot worst under cap and trade.  The few mines still open are saying they will most likely have to close.

These days we measure our value and many others with having a job or what type of job it is.  We have our self-identities wrapped up in our work.

One of the reasons the Ren Fests are such gleefully fun things.  We decide and the people around us accept, who and what we want to be.

In the past, people accepted that sometimes they are not in control.  The concept of "the wheel of fortune" was acknowledged that sometimes things worked out.  That the stars were aligned for us.  And, sometimes, no matter how hard you try, the universe somehow steps in and blows our efforts into the wind.

Here is a nice talk that you may find interesting, and I hope things have gotten better for you since your first post:

While I still have a job......I did take a 30% pay cut.
That means TRF is out for this year and Scarby is in serious jeopardy. I hope something besides bank executives bonuses improves soon.

aaaand... I got downsized meself. Actually, a steady security detail contract we had went kaput, and the high-threat detail (translation: "butt-tonne of money") we were supposed to have had was canceled. End result: one PSD specialist out o' work, and unable to take overseas contracts due to a pregnant wife, cause I am NOT going to leave her while she's pregnant with our first child. Grrr...  Sheriff's dept. is still in the works, but like any law enforcement agency, that involves several months and a butt-tonne of paperwork, so not for a while yet.

So, while not really fired, I am having to look for steadier full-time employment. Blargh!

Sorry to hear that, my friend.  One of my fellow clanspeople asked why i wasn't going to faire until AHE... I'm just not making the same money i was, last year, at this time.  I'll be lucky to go to faire 3 times without spending the Xmas money i have saved. (not much)  :-[
