Ok as promised pictures of the coat I have. The first one is the back.

The second is it from the front with the kepi hat.

I'll probably change the buttons out to a brassy color, mod the back and maybe add a couple other bits.

Oh, that is just too steamy for words!!!  Thought about epaulets, or even a bit of gold braid somewhere, maybe?

I've been meaning to say that my SP patch from Nitestar came in and WOW! is it gorgeous!  It has my TS initials (although I just remembered my SP name is Dame Daphne Dreadnaught - *headsmack*) on a red background.  Beautiful work, Nitestar - thank you very much!  I'll be ordering another one w/the correct initials next week.

Reni- still deciding on what else to do with it, I don't want it too fancy, so we'll see.

Taffy- Pictures?

So, after reading about all the cool costumes you are working on, and doing a bit of browsing on brass goggles, I have decided that I am going to be an Airship Pirate for halloween.  No idea if I'm going to have anywhere to actually wear said costume, but I'm going to make one!  If nothing else, I will wear it around the house. :)

Now, I just need to figure out what I want to look like.  And a name.  I need a good name.  I think I like the idea of being an Irish pirate, so I guess I'll google traditional Irish names and see if anything jumps out at me.

Costume-wise, I'm thinking pants would probably make sense for a pirate, but I really like the idea of striped thigh-high stockings, and those are just no fun if they're hidden under pants.  Oh, what to do?  Maybe a shorter skirt, wrap-style, held closed with buckles?  Anyone have any suggestions?

We will be posting our Steampunk Patches with your choice of background color on ebay starting this coming week!  We have examples of our patches on our previous posts.
Thank you!

The patches look amazing, but are they up for the highest bid, or selling at a set price, because the ones I saw were on auction with a current bid of $5.00, with 4 days still left on the auction?

Maybe borrow a bit from your ren-wardrobe. A skirt with skirt hikes holding it up then maybe short pants underneath so you can still show off stripey socks. For the upper body a bodice and or corset over a shirt with a stand up collar.

For example like what my daughter is wearing in this picture.(upper body piccy)

Just thoughts.

Taffy, those breeches are VERY cool!  Unfortunately, they don't look very "piratey" to me. :(  Might take the idea and make my own pirate version, though.

Skirt hikes might work.  Definately something to keep in mind.

For the top, what do you guys think about a corset w/straps over...how to describe it...basically the standard button-down shirt, with a few buttons undone and the collar folded back, sleeves rolled up and held in place w/buckle straps.  And a trench coat, fitted on top and flaring into skirt/tails in the back?

And I think I have to have strapy/buckley boots of some sort.  :)

I'm thinking an Edwardian driving duster might be really cool w/your outfit.

Not sure what an "Edwardian driving duster" was, I found my coat while googling to find out.  Need to add a bit more fullness in the "skirt", and maybe buckles instead of the buttons, but this is pretty much exactly what I was thinking:

Is that the kind of thing you were meaning, Taffy?

This is what I mean by a duster:
http://www.richemporium.com/modeltduster.html

You can find a pattern by googling "model t duster".  These are such elegant coats and an icon of when driving a car was an adventure.

My skirt is coming along.  I did the pockets yesterday and the waistband today.  Tomorrow, the hem.  Then a little trim and a trip to Michael's for some pretty tschotschkes to tack on.

Just a couple of suggestions on sellers with steampunk-type stuff. :) Hopefully that is okay?

And Damsel in this Dress has worked on some Steampunk-inspired double-breasted bodices.

That reminds me... I need to dye my duster soon, although I'll have my new cloak with me for the rest of the weekend.  Mine is less Victorian/Edwardian, and almost more DustPunk, as in a riding (horseback) duster as opposed to a driving duster, with the split back and snaps that can form a loose leg.  It's got the small rain capelet, also, and it's a medium weight cotton, with an inner lining.  It's a fairly bright lighter denim blue, though, and I've wanted to dye it dark green for years, so I'll be doing that sometime next week, I hope. Need to borrow a really large steel stockpot from someone.

Hmmm... maybe I should be keeping a list...

I like how your thinking so far. It could be alot of fun, do remember though we want to see pictures. ;D

You know I was thinking that if I were to take that jacket in to the lady who has done the hems on my dresses for fest and told her what I want to do with it I'd probably get a very weird look...you know I should do it if anything for the funny look.
