I hope to be there All Hollows Eve with some type of clothes on ::) I remind me of Sam Elliot....but only different!  ;D After thinking I have complete Civil War Officers uniforms, Union and Confederate, Cowboy/Texas Ranger and Apache Scout as a reenactor. I'm starting to think NDN Punk. Apache with goggles and gear. Humm, shades of Wil Sampson.
What ya'll think?
How could you mank an NDN punkish?

Maybe a tribe with secret technology handed down from a more advanced version of a Mayan or Aztec civilization

I think that sounds AWESOME, Fergus!!!  I like the Scout idea, but maybe with bits of both Native and non-Native cultures mixed in.  Will Sampson had so many roles where he blurred the lines between cowboy and Indian that he'll make a great starting point for a character!  I'm thinking you might want to keep the duster as part of your garb, just in case it keeps getting cooler.

Not sure how you'll go about punking that up, though...

Why not leave the duster more or less alone? If you did want to add to it maybe a few native style bits, feathers draping off the shoulders perhaps? A dreamcatcher with the webbing being held together in the center with a gear?

Ohh interesting thoughts on a women's native style dress...I know at least some of the tribes up here have I think its called the bell dance where they have bells on thier dresses...maybe instead of bells, cogs and sprockets?

Very interesting input from all. Thanks, the "gears are turning". (Couldn't help it)

The 18th century glasses I just bought might be of interest for a steamed look. I posted a picture in the period eyeglasses thread http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=2197.15

Similar frames can be found in Walmart, and also in the Colonial Williamsburg catalog (for less than the price shown).

Do any of the ones in the Williamsburg catalog have the double lenses? that was part of the higher price on the set I bought.

Jas Townsend also has a range of early eyeglass frames ranging from $25-$30

Thanks for the link, Groomporter.  I had forgotten the name of that company and lost my catalog.

Didn't post it earlier but I love those glasses, very cool.

It's looking less likely that I will get to come for AHE. I expected to be living in Austin by this time, but I'm not there yet.

However, if I can work it out with my sis and new bro-in-law, I may get to come down to Aus and stay with them. We'd be all three going to AHE together.  :D It's all a matter of scheduling though.

Stephanie Lady P, I hope your move is smooth & also that you will be joining us - *fingers crossed* - keep us informed.

My darling son brought me a book today:  Doctor Grordbort's Contrapulatronic Dingus Directory, a catalog of some nifty wannabe contraptions and some awesome rayguns - starting at about $400 - yikes!  To see the book & rayguns, go here:

If you scroll down a little there are some awesome steampunk inspired cakes.  Too cool!

So... I got the most amazing piece of leather yesterday from eBay. About 3.25 oz, 21 sq. ft., natural full grain, vat dyed the most gorgeous milk chocolate brown.  Soft as butter and thick enough for certain types of pouches, as well as at least three different projects I've been wanting to try out for Steampunk!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty seriously considering trying to sell some of these things to bring in some extra cash, but I doubt I'll have time to get anything into production before WindyCon next month, or even get any sort of listing online by then.  I believe there are a couple of other good size S/P events coming up in the next few months, though, and I'm hoping I can build up a little interest on some of the other forums out there.  I have a really great list of suppliers for everything I need to produce several different goodies that I'm thinking might sell well, and I can get a tax ID number here for only about $10, so I think early next month I'll be heading on down to the Hall of Records and handing over a sawbuck for that little slip of paper.  It would be really nice to pay wholesale prices for some of this stuff!!!

Loved the Capt. Nemo cake - all those tentacles!

Rani, congratulations on the stroke of steaminess - I look forward to seeing your vision become reality.

Yesterday afternoon I spent some time trying on my outfits for AHE & WC.  I think the AHE is ready to go - just need to go the the shoe repair shop & have him punch some holes in my boot straps.

The cakes are great!  Needed some inspiration, my giveadamn has been "broke" as of late.  All that satin in a heap, waiting to be cut.  But that's the plan for this weekend, after the 5K for Breast Cancer tomorrow morning.

Got hubby to take his Nerf Maverick apart, have paint (fingers crossed) drying on it.  The humidity around here is NOT helping.  My own blaster didn't need lots of gadgetry added - it was cool to start, just needed paint.  That's progressing, again waiting for it to truly DRY!  May have to get out the hair dryer.

Is there a cool party anywhere in Dallas for Halloween?
