I disappear for a while and I always have to catch up with lovely work.  Well done to all!

operafantomet - your sister's dress is stunning!  I agree that it was the perfect pregnant wedding dress very becoming to her.

Silverstah, I really like the unusual head gear.  It goes well with your new garb.

Might I add. There is nothing like smooching with a man with facial hair. It adds a tickle to any close encounter.  ;)

Especially when he looks a little like Colin Firth from the profile side.

One would think a plain, white dress would be a simple project, but I often find these the hardest... White, smooth fabric, non-historical cut... Nothing to "hide" behind, nothing to "razzle-dazzle them". And such a short time to make it, exhausting. But, I'm finished and the wedding was wonderful!

That right there is the sign of a seamstress who's full of the awsome sauce!!   :D

It's a stunning gown.  Well fit, beautifully cut and just wonderful.

Thank you THANK you for all the supernice comments on the newly completed wedding dress! That truly made my day.

QuoteThat's the best preggy wedding gown I've seen.  I shall have to bookmark it for reference. The notes and comments about the skirt are particularly helpful.  What a lovely result!

This comment meant a lot to me. Big hugs!

Okay, so I sort of kind of posted this dress before. But I posted it as just an under kirtle that was to have a french gown over top.

Well, I've had a bit of a garb emergency. I found out FRIDAY I need to play a noble character this WEDNESDAY. And I need to be dressed and ready to go an hour after I finish a full day of work, and half an hour of that is taken up with a subway ride. So I've been sewing like a madwoman all weekend trying to get the costume ready.

Full length

Close-up, with appropiately haughty noble face!

Back view!

The sleeves are the same yellow cotton brocade as the gown, lined with black (shudder!) polyester. Don't judge, this was a fast and cheap project, and this was the only fabric that a)co-ordinated and b)was slippery in the remnants bin at Fabricland. The sleeves are attached with Sealion's button-and-hair-elastic technique. Since the arm holes of the gown were not designed for sleeves they needed to be fairly loose so I only used one point. Luckily my chemise has enough poof to it that it looks good!

The cap is my first ever beading project. I used real pearls, but the fabric is actually a scrap of some sort of piled knit that my mom had left over from attempting to make my Dad a housecoat in the '80's. It's a weird combination of high and low quality materials, but it stays on my head, looks good, and doesn't require me to do a lot of fuss with my hair.

And I once again pride myself on no visible machine stitching- except sort of on the hat, but you can't really see it because it's hidden in the fabric pile.

End result- a fairly decent looking costume that your average person is going to say "yeah, that's renaissance!" that I can put on by myself with minimal fuss (the back of the gown is low enough that I can lace myself in). Yay me!

p.s. The only thing I had a pattern for was the hoop skirt. Everything else I drafted myself. YAY ME!!!!!!!!

Yay, you, indeed!!  You look fabulous!

Tammy

GirlChris...that's absolutely beautiful!!

I just finished a few pieces, and Rani said I had to post them here...so here goes.
I made the peasant blouse/chemise, waist cincher, skirt, and bloomers. I did all but the skirt this past week. The skirt I made this past spring. The skirt is full length in the front...I pulled it up to show off the bloomers.  :D
Total cost of outfit might be $15.00...including the grommets & tool, and the goblet, and fan.

Oh, YAY!!!  You look wonderful, Tammy!  I love the pirate-y material, and I actually have that same goblet!  Great job... and thanks for posting them!

And now you can hang with all those sexy pirates, eh?!?  ;)

GirlChris, your noble gown is lovely, and such a wonderfully uncluttered design.  You can so easily accessorize it either up or down, so it can fit several different character stations, and versatility is a wonderful thing in garbing!

Yep I have a big huge grin! I has made a Ruff!! It is beautiful and now I have the bug and I will be making all sorts of things from now on!  Several people descended onto Eugene Oregon. For another workshop with "Costume Talk" Here is the link: www.costumetalk.com
The ladies have been working on getting some great classes set up so that we all can learn.  This one was with Tammi from Renaissance Tailor again here is the link to her site: www.renaissancetailor.com.  We did 2 days the first day was glove making and I can't show you anything yet from that workshop because I could not get past my thumb.  I will be working on that in the next weeks and taking pictures.  However I was able to make my ruff and since I had an utter failure with my gloves... I needed to have a completed ruff.  Now I have taken other classes and I can tell you this was the easiest and best class on the subject and best yet? I have a completed ruff 1 day later!!!!

Check out my gorgemous ruff

Costume Talk will be having more talks, lectures, and workshops upcoming next year.
We had I think an amazing experience and we all laughed shared our love of costuming and more importantly? Came away with brag -orgous accessories!!

Oh yes, that is just a delicious ruff!  Beautiful lace edge!  Thanks for the links...  Now someone can help me with what to do after you wash and starch your ruff and done have a hot pokey thing to repress it.  ::)

operafantomet

Awesome ruff indeed!!

As for a hot iron to "curl" it up after wash is to use a curling iron (the same you'd use for your hair). Eva Andersson did that for a chemise based on one of the Sture shirts: http://web.comhem.se/~u41200125/TempledeLyon.html
