I used that stuff (I think I got something used to make rugs?) in the brim of the hat, but the bumpy edges were a pain when I was trying to slide it in place, hence the poster board. I might take a little more time and figure out a more permanant solution!

Buckram works well too, if you're not going to get the hat wet.  It's a loose-weave fabric with lots of starch or glue or something that makes it really stiff.  Sadly, the stiffening stuff washes out if you get it wet.

If you found something you like, but are having issues with the edges of it, you could always cover the edges with something.  Fabric binding, or even masking tape, to smooth out the edges.

Anyway, the hat looks good; if it was me, I wouldn't mess with it until it started showing wear.  :)

Oh how cool! Those earrings are awesome!

I'm finishing my corset tonight, and have my skirt/bustle done already, so I'm going to be going on to my over-coat and then accessories soon!

I'll have to take some good pictures to show my stuff off.  :P

Just an fyi moment.  For any RUSH fans out there, they are currently touring, this time around being  "The Time Machine Tour".  The amps, Neil's drum kit, stage equipment, etc  are all made up to look steampunk-ish.  We are seeing them on July 21 in Philly! Can't wait!  ;D

Well, speaking of Steampunk, my character now has a name and a position on an airship!  Photos later as I upgrade from last year's stuff.  In the meanwhile, say hello to Rufina Rose Vermillion, aka Reds, Communications office on the Airship The Plundering Loon!

So I was watching TV with my hubby and we had the new episode of the new season of Warehouse 13 on. I was delighted to see a rather SP-looking vest, the mention of it being "steampunk" and then the use of some awesome goggles!

I picked through this really cool thrift shop in Houston and didn't have a single thing in my basket that wasn't brass or copper. My mind is already buzzing on what I can do with my cool finds. I did pick up a neat brass mug, but it seems to be corroding or something....is it safe to drink from a cup like that? I was thinking I could somehow get a "safe" plastic cup in there without it being seen from the outside. Any thoughts?
