Rather than recut the whole thing, add a band to the hem.  You could do this to both sides to make a 'design feature'.

Wait, isn't "design feature" another word for bug in programming?! LOL : )  Thanks for the advice, I will try that. I really appreciate it. : )

CenturiesSewing

I haven't done much sewing the past few months but I have been planning...

I have the wool for it, and the velvet for the trim and cuffs

I have the wool for this too, need to check the stash if I need the velvet for the turn backs, I know I have some for the undersleeves.

I have some gray "mockado" for it rather then wool...

Not going to be an exact copy but I have silk taffeta and velvet for a kirtle, and lining for the kirtle. I need to find something to line the gown with, or more of the "cloth of gold" quilters cotton for the train.

I'm still buried in fluffiness...the skirt's getting the ruffles sewn on finally, and it's taking a while since I have decided to do them by hand. Which is funny because sewing them on by hand is actually going more quickly than trying to machine sew them on.

Once I make a mucho larger hoop skirt I plan on getting my hands on some more organza and making a new skirt that's even fluffier!

My next project is my sexy 1820's inspired white gowns.  My director wanted me to make the vampire brides look like they are 50-75 years behind the times (1880's).  I'm trying to make them look somewhat historically accurate but still keep that classic vampire look.   They will be sleeveless, I know not HA, but trying to keep sweat stains off white satin in 90 degree weather is NOT going to happen.  Two things look to be tricky. 1)  That I am doing a standing collar in the back.  Funny enough I got the directions on how to do it by seeing how you do the big Queen Elizabeth halo thing. 2) I have a wide array of size of actresses . Girl A) 5'3" size 12 with B cup, Girl B) 5'1" size 12, but C cup. Girl C) 5'5" Size 10 but DDD after her reduction (She was a K.)  Girl D)  5'8" size 14 with a C cup.
Wish me luck!  I'll post pictures after fittings.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Ooo I haven't been on here for a while. Computer problems.

But everyone's projects are looking great. I got my projects done so you will have to see them in the
finished projects thread.

I LOVE that fluffy skirt!

I made one kinda like that and I am wanting to make another. I was thinking if I sewed the ruffles on a ribbon that it would make the assembly process less stressful..

The ruffling foot is your friend... @_@

My problem is that the base fabric is actually kinda slippery as well as the organza...that's why the stupid machine takes forever to sew them. Doing them by hand = going swimmingly. I did layers 2 (machine) and 3 (hand) last night and pinned #4. Layer 4 is sewn on and I'm about to start on 5. :D

Beautiful job CapnFaye!   You all have made such amazing projects this year.  I am inspired to pull out one of mine again.

Any suggestions for this wine colored gathered fabric?   The floral is my first court dress and the bodice is still in good shape and fits perfectly so when I saw this matching color fabric with all this gathered texture I immediately thought... New Skirt!   But it looks rather plain so I dug out about 6 miles of sheer organza gold ribbon. What would you all do to make this "work".  I think running a line of ribbon down each gathering row would be gorgeous, maybe a bead couched into it... Very labor intensive though.   All two cents's welcome!

Also which direction would you put the stripes?  Horizonally or vertically?

The projects in progress are so lovely!!! The color combinations, striking!

I want to do, one of these days, is a Princess Elizabeth doll as like the portrait.

Thanks Amy.

Oooh, the possibilities. I'm leaning towards having the stripes go horizontally, and having the gathers vertical. I think that'd be a fantastic skirt though! Love the color!

This is what's keeping me from progress on my historical projects:

Delivery date is 25th September.  There's about 8 days of work left:

Amy's gown:
Shorten the support and refinish it's bottom edge.
Put in the metal bones
Finish the top edge.
Finish off the tops of the godet pleats inside.
Make the back placket and covered buttons: work the button loops.
Finish the hem off.
Make up petticoat
Make up the shoulder wrap and corsage flower.

Inga's Gown (hers is straight rather than flared: Different figure):
Sew in the minor alterations
Put the boning channels in the lining and insert the bones.
Finish the top edge.
Make up the shoulder wrap and corsage flower
Sew the lining down to the zip tape and finish the hem.

Leonie's Gown:
Sew a minor alteration to the facing at the side seams.
Repeat Inga's list.
Make up net petticoat.

Helen's Gown:
Sew together and arrange fitting...
Repeat list as for Leonie!
