Valencia

YAY for another PotO costume!! I so super love watching your costumes come together, you do the most beautiful work!!!

The late victorian costumes are going to be awesome, especially 1492!!! I have decided the Victorian era is my favorite for costuming. I love love the tailoring.

Valencia

Over the weekend, I sewed the petticoat for the 1880 Victorian, and then I finished all the hook and eyes and tiebacks on the skirts.  I also did the finish work on the bodice, woot! All I have left to do is buttons and buttonholes, then add whatever trim I decide on.

This is all three skirts (petticoat, underskirt with tiebacks, and overskirt with tiebacks):

Sadly, the awesome lightly bustled effect gets smashed when I put on the jacket, but this is natural form era, and that's how it's supposed to be. I'm trying REALLY hard to not buy the patterns for the early bustle era until I've knocked out a few other projects on my to do list, lol... : )

Valencia! Is this the pattern you are using from Truly Victorian? From the looks of things, it might be. I want to order this set as well for an ensemble I want to make out of a Red and Black Floral brocade or even in a Bengaline Taffeta. http://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/C-1879.html

I also want this one as wellhttp://trulyvictorian.com/catalog/422.html

I'm going to order TV422, I'm thinking that will go well with my current skirts; I'll do the 3/4 sleeves, line it with twill instead of duck, and wear the whole gig to the masquerade ball in July. I just love the cut and detailing on that jacket. And I think the lower neckline will be more flattering for evening wear than the current jacket I am finishing, which is more of a day wear.

The patterns I used were TV121 for the petticoat, TV221 for the underskirt, TV324 for the overskirt, and TV428 for the bodice jacket. I LOVE her patterns, they are so easy to work with. The skirts go together so quickly and easily, and they hang beautifully.  Even the jacket was easy to work with. Every once in a while, she is a little unclear in the directions, so I've had a couple of hang ups, but nothing major.

Love this jacket. I might have to order this pattern. Thank you for sharing Lady K

Nice gowns ladies, and such a nice variety to drool over. Jealous! I want new pretty things too!  :)

Anea your dress is wonderful! Are you working on a show or a costume for some other event?

gem

Everything is gorgeous!  I'm fascinated by Anea's wicker dress form... and did anyone else notice that her books are arranged by color? How fun is that?!

Oh, and the gown is a stunner, but that goes without saying.  ;)

Valencia

I didn't even notice the books OR the dress form... I kept admiring the gorgeous blue of the dress!

Lady Isabella

I finally got back to work on Kendyl's gown. The bodice is complete. Still need to hem the skirts and get the sleeves made. But I'm so happy with it so far.

Still in the sewing stage. We were trying to decide trim placement.

Now back to work!

Lady Rebecca

Lovely work, everyone! Valencia, that pleated bustle is absolutely gorgeous. Love the color, too!

After a couple do-overs with both the shoulder straps and fitted sleeves (which I realized I have somehow never done before), here is my in-progress Chemise a la Reine.

Obviously, the sash is a stand-in right now. I hope to make my light blue taffeta sash tomorrow. I also need to make a short-sleeved chemise, and a light blue knife-pleated petticoat to wear underneath (and someday, I'll finish binding my blue stays, too!). I'm going to attach the lace on the neckline by hand (it's gathered with blue velvet ribbon), and there will also be lace on the edges of the sleeves.

Alas, it's not for any events. It was more that of a challenge - my blog project for 2011 is to try something new every week, or thereabout. One suggested I should try making a Phantom costume in one week. Usually I spend months on them, so it was kinda interesting to see how that worked out. Got pretty far (as far as the picture shows), but didn't get to finish the decorations. But it taught me that I can definitely speed up my projects...

Valencia, thank you for your nice words!

Gem, hahahaha! Glad you noticed. The wicker dress form was a gift from a store I used to work in. They got new dress forms with arms and legs, and the owner knew I made costumes and wondered if I wanted them. I have two of them, and I love them! And I sort all my stuff by colours, it's a disease... But for the bookshelf also a necessity, cause I live in a tiny studio apartment and the bookshelf is as much a decoration as it is practical.  ;D

Lady Isabella, the Photobucket pictures doesn't show up for some reason, they seem to have been moved or deleted? I wanna see!

Lady Rebecca, I'm jealous. Chemise a la reine is such a cool style! Looking forward to see the finished attire.

Isabella, that's pretty! I love the way the fabrics and the trims all blend.  I especially like the shoulder treatments. What pattern did you use?

Anea, I really need to check in on your blog. Interesting to set challenges for yourself. I hope you find an event to wear this one. It'd be fun to go dancing in.  :)

Rebecca, you are sewing up a storm up there in in Orlando. May I ask the same question of you? Are you working on all these lovely things for a particular project or just for the love of sewing?

Auryn

Lady Rebecca, when do you have time to sleep???
I love the neckline on your chemise

Lady Isabella- just beautiful and I love the color combination.

I can't believe I actually finally have something to add here. It feels like I haven't worked on anything in a year or so.

This dress was supposed to be finished for thanksgiving, than yule and then Christmas, its Jan 18 and here we are.
I am debating about adding some embroidery to the sleeves so they are only basted in at the moment while its on Victoria.
I had my bf do a quick lace up job at 6:30 am so I could take a picture to post- going to have to teach him spiral lacing. I am relatively happy with the fit.
The fabric is a really pretty, really thin red moleskin suede. I plan on wearing it with a separate sleeveless chemise underneath and a bell sleeve overdress (not sure on the color yet) that laces in the front ( a la mother confessor from the seeker tv show).
I plan to wear the overdress less version to the medieval weekend at our faire in a few weeks.
