Oh Syrilla, that's one of my favorite underskirts and sleeve sets I've seen of yours! Love it!

Great work ladies!

Well Met All!

I am heading to an SCA event in Arizona called "Estrella" although I have been involved with the SCA for 26 years, I have never made it to Estrella, life kept getting in the way! So I decided come hell or high water? I was getting to this darn event this year!

So this is the portrait I took my inspiration from Sofonisba Anguissola 1573:

Of course? I detest the color red, it is from my childhood and while I work with the past? I can't get over that issue, yet! LOL
So I have 10 yards of Deep Purple Wool and 25 yards of silver trim (Thank you eBay) and well I have raspberry linen for the lining of the doublet and sleeves, and I have some icky green linen that I will line the skirt with, so here is what I have done so far!

I build a little differently than others I do the stuff I get bored with or will forget first, so I am working on the sleeves and trim for this gown.
Here is the trim being sewn down:

Here I am drawing in the lines to add the trim to the sleeves don't you love the deep purple?

Here are the sleeves done ready for my hand sewing during the week:

Here is the doublet in pieces awaiting the last fitting then wool cut and assembly:

So hopefully I will work on the skirt during the week and then get the Doublet fitted and by next week it will be done.
Then I have to make the interior sleeves from some Silver Dupioni and some trim.

Thanks Capn. It's mine also.   One reason I'm bringing it out of retairement.

My first mockup for my 17th c gown bodice. I've decided to do a front opening on the bodice, and the skirt will be knife pleated all the way around, except the very front. I'm going to try to attach the back of the skirt to the bodice, and I'll have a split in the sides of the skirt, like an 18th c one, with the front of the skirt tying underneath the back, so that the skirt can fit underneath the bodice in the front. The sleeves will be cartridge pleated in the back, with a small panel in the front, to create two open slashes.

In my 2nd mockup, I'm attempting to reshape the armhole, since the original pattern from Period Costumes for Stage and Screen had it shaped really strangely. I'll be doing the 2nd mockup tomorrow.

You can also see my progress on my UFO - the stays are all bound except for the tabs on one side, which should be finished within the next 2 weeks.

Cilean,
When you coming to AZ?

Estrella begins February 14 to the 21st. I am only going to be there for 2 to 3 days, I am hoping to get there on the 16th to the 19th!  I want to walk about and perhaps take some classes and then take a ton of photos.  I think it is mundanely in Goodyear, AZ?

The first Victorian ensemble so far.

A simple Petticoat to give the Overskirt more oomph.

High necked Blouse with delicate lace. I have to sew in snaps for closing and pearl buttons for decoration.

Blouse closeup showing delicate floral pattern.

Skirt made of Taffetta.

The thing about Ageless Patterns is that there are NO real set instructions. One has to rely on their sewing experiences to figure out the pieces, what goes with what, then put it together. There are written instructions, but little else.

The skirt pattern for this ensemble was so huge, there would not have been enough width(60") of the Taffeta, unless I pieced it. That would have looked terrible. The pattrn piece was bell shaped with the front on the fold.

So, I redrew the skirt onto the Taffetta to give it a more period look, while wasting as little of the fabric as I could. I did a modern technique to get a period look. Now onto the belt and Eton Jacket.

Wow Lady Kathleen! That is going to be just beautiful.

Oh yes.. that is going to be lovely.. I think that plaid is amazing.  I would love that for a mundane dress...  but then the name mundane would not fit at all!   Can't wait to see it progress.
