I'm currently working on my first noble ensemble. This is the underskirt and overskirt on "Bonnie".

Beautiful work Evie. I just love that fabric.

I don't have pictures yet, but I continued work on a project I started back in July for the fuzzlet.  Using a christening gown pattern, I adapted it to make a somewhat period  baby shock for the fuzzlet for Scarby next April or May.  The bodice section is made from left over white diopni silk, and lined with kona cotton.  Then the skirt section is a dark royal blue kona cotton that was left over from my the new long chamise that I made for me last spring.  Then the sleeves and neck binding are made from some left over antique gold silk I had. I'm not putting any trim on it because she likes to put everything in her mouth.  I also have cut out a matching biggen/ bonnet for her.
Provided I can manage it, I have new bodice I am making for myself which is white and gold like fuzzlet's 'bodice'.  That way she has a matching to Daddy outfit, and one to match mummy. :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

The Frogs I ordered from Pillaged Village came in today. So I pinned them on the unfinished Gandalf vest to see how they would look. I am pleased. The Ivory Frogs brings out the Ivory in the trim. Now onto the undershirt and loose trousers that will go under the tunic gown.

I cleaned up the hem of your Cloak, Merlin! I got rid of the wonkiness that was bugging the hell out of me.

The trousers and shirt are cut out of Tablecloth Linen and ready for me to put together. I had a very busy week with Alterations that included 15 pairs of slacks.

Those are some fantasmagorical frogs, LK.  I am over the moon for those!  Going, now, to take a long stroll through the Pillaged Village....

CenturiesSewing

A few things just pinned in place for now, but the velvet kirtle is almost done! Just needs a waistband, a few eyelets and for me to cover part of the bodice in velvet.

Looks great Centuries! I love emerald and burgundy together--so lush!
I wish I had WIP to post--alas, I'm in the midst of closing on a short sale and all my stuff is either in boxes or behind them :( *sigh* Me thinks I'll lay a pattern out on the floor (even though it'll kill my back) and cut it out. It's quite literally killing me not sewing. My stress levels are through the roof, and so I've been stress eating instead of stress SEWING. I'm glad the house is big, I'll need more space to move my fat butt around in!! Have fun ladies, and keep posting--it drives me to see your work!

After all the research done on these boards I finally decided to remake my ill-fitting first-attempt bodice. I have a few days to finish the skirt waistband, put in the last grommets, and attach the straps before I wear it out to TRF this weekend but wanted to get some initial opinions.  What stands out now that I should fix and what do you see that I should change for future outings?  Also, if I'm going non-noble, what accessories should I add?  What type of jewelry should I wear and what type of hat would be appropriate?

Since pictures don't seem to post correctly for me they can also be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/54532822@N07/6326910666/.

Thanks in advance for your advice and if you see me at TRF this weekend I would love to chat.

It wouldn't post correctly because you were posting links, not objects (ie pictures).  At the top of the picture on your flickr page it says "share" towards the left.  Click on "Grab the HTML/BBCode" and make sure the BBCode radio button is checked.  Just cut and paste from there.

As for the bodice, it looks a bit long to me at the sides.   Long in front is fine, but make sure the sides are at your actual waist or you will be hurting.  Bend in it to the sides and see if it cuts into you at all.

Don't forget a chemise!  You'll need it.   The material gives the affect of a lower class noble/middle class.  I'd add a hat of some sort and a girdle/belt.  Don't forget a basket or a purse either!

Cori

Yeah, got the pictures uploaded correctly.   :D   I'll definitely wear a chemise, I didn't for the picture in case it hid a flaw in the bodice.   The shortening of the sides will have to wait until after the weekend (I'm not that fast at sewing) but I'll look for a belt as I didn't think of that.  Thanks for the help.

I agree with Isabella that you might wanna shorten the sides/back. Maybe remove the lower lacing hole? It would make the fit even better, and it'll probably also be more comfortable to wear. And it'll make the pointed front even more pointed. :)

I would also consider hooks and bars to attach the skirt to the bodice, on maybe three or four spots. That is both period and a good way to avoid the bodice riding up over the waistband of the skirt - without loosing the adjustability separate bodice and skirts gives. You could also make semi-permanent ties on the inside, to tie the skirt and bodice together - like men did with doublets and breeches. Might be easier to deal with than the hooks, if you're dressing alone.

As for accessories... A bonnet with cameo and feathers is a favourite of mine, no matter the class. A modest partlet in the neck opening would also be lovely. It was usually wore over the chemise, but under the dress. For slightly higher class, a girdle following the shape of the bodice (straight in the back, pointed in front), ending in a long central string in front. For slightly lower class, an apron - but this would cover the nice split of your skirt.
