Hyde, you should check out some of the stuff a friend of mine does. His name is Robert Watson (sorry, don't know what I was thinking earlier, but Watson is the correct last name), and you can find him in my facebook friend list. He's extremely talented, and he's got an extremely Steamy imagination!  He does custom work, as well. Tell him you got his name from me.

You know, Auryn does beautiful leather work, as well. I don't know what her schedule is like, but you might get lucky and find an opening!

Oh, and I'm thinking a gorgeous shoulder bracer, maybe with some shiny brass accents...

Maybe a leather halter?  Like a belt at empire waist, with straps.

LOL  Merlin... you crack me!  That's from a company called Corsets-UK, and every day on facebook they have daily deals where they list several corsets as their "corset of the day", and mark them down by 75-85%, or more.  I got my last one from there, and it's extremely well made, and very pretty!  I'll be wearing it to the next Steampunk event I attend, in fact!

There is no such thing as too many corsets

I wanted to pick you guys' brains.
This year is going to be the first time I will be a vendor at a Steampunk Con.
I have been doing art shows and vending at small ren faires for about 10 years- so I have the vending part down.

What I am perplexed about is what kind of products should I make for a steampunk con.
I have to be honest I have been rather dissapointed by the majority of offerings for the steampunk genre that I have seen at different comic cons
and even at DragonCon the offerings were very dissapointing

Id love to hear what you guys think

Mr. Hyde, don't know what your wife's steampunk style is, but perhaps a cute little leather tophat? Or if the budget is a bitt too tight for that a small bunch of leather roses would make a lovely and very personal gift. She could pin them to her hat or wear as a corsage or wristlet or wear them in her hair. There are many sites online for these and I know there are faire vendors that make these. If you are handy you might even make them yourself. Search youtube for "How to make leathet roses". You can even scent them to make them even more romantic. :)

Auryn, how fun. No real advice, but I know you'll come up with something wonderful. My own thoughts are that a fun, spontaneous and relatively inexpensive item would be the thing.

Cross-posting this in a few threads today, but I know too many people here who will be interested in the info!

Hancock Fabrics is having a big sale today, and if you get their flyer there is an extra 10% off entire purchase coupon in it that is a rare event!  McCall's and Simplicity both 5/$5, and broadcloth for $1.49 yd...

Michael's is also having a clearance sale, and they have some coupons online, including a 25% off entire regular price purchase, and that NEVER happens!

At Teslacon which is an actual steampunk convention there was a fair mix of stuff from books of historic interest, quite a bit of miscellaneous jewelry ( Picked up some cufflinks since I forgot mine.) Four or five clothing venders (a couple focused on corsets). A couple boothes more focused on prop weapons. A couple artists (painting drawing). I wasn't too impressed with most of the canes/walking sticks, so I'm going to be sure to have mine to sell next year. Here's a list of the actual venders who attended. http://www.teslacon.com/site/information/vendors/

Problem is there is the whole DIY as a large aspect to SP, so I think the quality needs to be high enough for people to say "That's better than I can make or have the time to do..." One thing I rarely see is more military uniforms based on the red coats that were still being worn. I've been tempted to do something based off a Zulu Wars style uniform for a while.
