I wish our boards had a "love" button, like FB! It's gorgeous Gem! *droooooool*

Oh my goodness, Gem!  I LOVE the entire ensemble!  I scrolled on the pics with my girls sitting here and you should have heard them all gasp!  MAJOR WIN!!!!! (Because really, who better to judge than 3, 5, and 7 year old girls?)   ;D

Thanks, guys!  I so wish I could get a dishwasher but my kitchen is a nice 6x10, barely.  I think it's really 5'5"x9'5".  It's big enough for a fridge, oven, sink, microwave, and me!  Now, I could *hire* a dishwasher....hmmm...

Oh well, i have been playing with the rotary cutter with limited success.  We'll see how it does on various fabrics tonight.
I did this once, split my hand open washing glass cups. My kitchen is also rather small, and no place to install a dishwasher.

I got a portable one, though, and it just hooks up to the sink right in front of it, and then when its finished, I can roll it off to someplace it fits:)

Gem the ensemble looks fantastic!

And yes, the surface your mat is on will make a HUGE difference.  Definitely put it on a table to get the proper pressure.

now that I have the stitches out (and left handed scissors!), I've been working on my nephews' Halloween outfits.   Here's the 2 year old's "Dragon" cape:

dragon cape! by jubileel_insaneone, on Flickr

The colors are very muted in the picture.  In reality, it's a lovely true lime green, safety cone orange, and forest green for the "wings".  I outlined the wings with a brown zig zag trim.  The back scales are the same safety cone orange as the wings.   The oldest nephew wants to wear his pumpkin cape again (what I made him last year) and the 3 month old gets no choice - he's going as a Candy Corn.   ;D

The Smock Is Done!!!

I probably won't get to wear it until next year, but it's on Headless Bianca at the moment, and she looks fabulous.  ;D

The smock itself (I ended up using some beautiful brown velvet ribbon for the ties):

With my new skirt!

And a semi-closeup of the collar, cuffs, & ruffles:

I'm *thrilled.* This took three times longer than I expected, but I learned some new techniques (serged rolled hems!) and it turned out exactly like I expected--which is always awesome. The one hiccough (isn't there always one?)... the cuffs are *still* too big! >:( I think I need to put in an eyelet on one end to keep them from slipping down my hands, and to help close up the ruffle.

I am drooling over here.  That shift is gorgeous.

I am keeping very quiet over in this corner.  Do not want to stain lovely new shift with pea-green jealousy!  :-*

So cute.  Be sure to post pics of your nephews wearing them.

Thanks, everyone! Headless Bianca is still wearing her new finery, and I am still ridiculously happy with it. I can't get over how well everything works together, even though it was was assembled as individual projects, not a planned ensemble.  Me:  ;D ;D ;D

Now it needs a hat. LOL

Isabella, how fun!! I'd love to see it worn/hanging, too, so we can see the drape of all those colors as they'd fall naturally! (I got to sew for my nephews exactly once... but now my brother is having twins. Girls. Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!!  :D)

The cape fit the nephew.  However, being that he is two, he had NO desire to wear it.  We are all sure that will change come Halloween and he sees all the other kids wearing funny things and getting candy for it.  ;-)

I finished my "What an American alum of Hogwarts might wear" dress.

The back view gives you a better idea of the style.  Sorry for the photo quality - I took them with my phone.   The bodice/dress is made from two old leather coats I got at the thrift store.  One was $20 and the other was $16.   I still have enough leather left over for a short cape, I think.  We'll see next year.  :-)  The chemise is an OLD one that I tore up to match the hem of the bodice/dress.   The bodice part of the dress looks like snake skin (probably just cow printed to look like snake skin) so I'm naming it the Basilisk dress!   The fun part about it is that I kept the pockets of the original coat the skirt is mostly made out of.   I'm ALWAYS putting things in my pockets and it's distressing when I don't have one.

Now, on to the Regency dress project and then the German dress for all my end of the year projects.  :-)
