That looks so beautiful. I am dreaming of getting an embrodery machine now. Keep up the wonderful work.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Thank you, ladies. I'm pleased with the way the underskirt came out. Now I'm waiting for my black silk to come in. Still lots to do before April 6th.
I heard that!
please PM me what type of machine you have. I thinking I might be wanting a Christmas present.

I think she said Pfaff Creative 4.0.  As I was drooling,  I priced one.
I think the cheapest I found was about 4K.... used-and that one was already sold.
So I will have to drool from a distance.
Now I know why the machine embroidered cotton blouse I ordered online, cost me $125.00!
And that was just for a 1 inch band on the cuffs, collar and 2-1"strips on the sleeves, from shoulder to wrist.   I wouldn't want to even estimate a price tag on the black work smock and forepart, if they had been made for sale.

Evie, it's gorgeous. :)

I remember getting a Very Nice Royalty Check a couple of years ago, and everyone encouraged me to spend it on something really frivolous and fun. I gave consideration to an embroidery machine and did some research... but ultimately decided that I wouldn't put the time in to learn how to use it well. (I mean, I don't even use my serger. LOL)

I ended up rebuilding our fireplace instead, which I can enjoy while I do my handwork! But I love to drool over the lovely things others make with theirs.

(Rowan, that price is really interesting. I have a hand-embroidered Romanian blouse--Van Helsing style--that cost $95. Interesting that the cost is comparable. Labor vs equipment investment, maybe? Although Evie definitely put work into her projects, if each smock sleeve motif took 40 minutes!)

I'm making this for my daughter, so it's a labor of love and a learning experience.  I'd have no idea what to ask if I starting making these to sell. I could break it down if someone wants to tell me what they think.

linen 4 yards - $30
Robison-Anton embroidery thread (4 spools) - $24
white lace on chemise wrist ruffle - $6
black lace on wrist - $2
buttons - $.50
elastic for neck - $2
32 hours on embroidery machine

These prices are approximate. I'm not very good at keeping up with receipts and have no idea what to charge for wear and tear on my machine. Would love to hear what you ladies think.

You all are making me jealous! Such gorgeous garb from everyone!
I just had half my thyroid taken out, so I haven't done much of anything. But I started putting together a set of flannel pj's lol *lame* When I'm back to "normal" (relatively speaking) I'm hoping to finish up my new smock with the embroidered collar and cuffs. I'm just so wiped out...
You all keep inspiring me with your projects so I am motivated once healed  ;D

Wickedvox, I hope you feel better soon!!!

I'm feeling really intimidated by all this gorgeous stuff. I have so very much to learn, and so little spare time, that I don't imagine I'll be this accurate in my garb for several years, if ever. I just hope folks will have patience with me as I learn. I'm going for comfort and the general "look," right now. And I've got some SCA folks who are going to help me with things like Viking apron dress and such, but they're earlier than ren I think. See? I don't even  that. :\ I do have a pattern for a sideless surcoat ... that might be my first "big" project. I was going to start it at a quilt retreat recently, but it turns out that the pattern called for wider fabric than the linen I bought. :(

everyone started out somewhere. 19 years ago I couldn't sew together a laundry bag.  :o

Gryffin?  I'm going to create a separate thread for a couple of things you bring up.

These were actually finished several years ago, but I wanted to share before I turned the under dress into a skirt.. This was my maternity garb three years in a row. The red dress was made from a pair of curtains. The hanging tabs were the perfect length for the shoulder straps. I drafted the bodice, lined it with canvas and added a velvet strip to the top. There is no boning, but it supported me nicely and was rather comfortable. I cheated and used elastic to hold the back together.

I drafted the blue overdress as well. I had a velvet band basted onto the waist held together by a pretty belt buckle I found in the craft section and safety pins. I got rather lazy towards the end of the project. It was some synthetic translucent material, so I didn't wear it half of the time on account of the heat.

I really liked this dress. I felt so lovely in it, despite being pregnant (I've been told I look good pregnant, I just don't like being pregnant). I took most of my inspiration off Ever After, but I actually had someone say it was accurate. Unfortunately I don't have any action shots. I was adamantly opposed to being photographed while pregnant.

Those are beautiful, Meagan! Do you have photos of you wearing them? And what are your little ones wearing? (My DB & SIL just had twin girls, who will be just old enough for wee starter garb by Fair season.)

Meagan

Thank you, Gem. No, there are no pictures of me wearing the garb. There is a picture of my SIL in it (we got a lot of use out of that garb), but I will have to dig around to see if I can find it. I tried to see if I could modify the garb so I could still wer it, but I've lost too much weight since having kids.

I will admit that I was lazy and didn't garb my kids. I put my daughter in simple cotton dresses and didn't even make any effort to garb my son when he was a babe. Having two children under two and being hugely pregnant takes away your motivation. :)   I have only been to faire twice since having my youngest three years ago, and we all went in danes. Their father takes them to faire more often and I believe he has a chemise, skirt and bodice for my daughter and kilts and shirts for the boys. Honestly I don't like the look for kids. I think bodices look silly on little girls and the kilts always have diapers or undies showing. I plan on working faire this year, so I still won't have a reason to make garb for the kidlets. For next year, I plan on a simple chemise and loose gown or kirtle for my daughter and a shirt and pants with a belt for my boys.

For babies, I would suggest a chemise and bloomers. It would cover the diaper for wiggly babies, but still be comfortable and simple enough for diaper changes. I will admit that I was lazy and didn't garb my kids. I put my daughter in simple cotton dresses and didn't even make any effort to garb my son when he was a babe. Having two children under two and being hugely pregnant takes away your motivation. :)

Faire is fun for kids and so is dressing up!  =)  My girls usually go as fairies but they also have peasant, pirate, and noble garb so what we all wear just depends on the weather, the theme of the weekend, and our moods.  =)  I don't go "accurate" for my girls- I made their noble gowns- those are accuratesque- and their peasant skirts, but everything else is just thrown together from clothes they have at home.  Poofy or angel sleeve shirts, leggings, belts, scarves, ect.  Oh, and I made them each a cape, also.

These pics are all a couple of years old, but the garb is still mostly the same.  =)

Another one with pictures that are couple of years old.  They both have nice fleece capes now that they wear.  My nephew in the orange is wearing his "Turkish" outfit with a basic Turkish shift underneath.  My nephew in the blue is wearing a blue t-tunic with black velvet bands.   Both are very simple to make and neither was a pattern.  Now, I think the orange outfit fits the youngest who wasn't even thought up yet when these pictures were taken.   ;)
