I've used hotwheels as pattern weights lol ;D

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

A new Project I started on.

This is just the mockup made out of Linen for  a Lady Pirate Coat for Lady DeLaney. I did some redrafting to this pattern http://www.jpryan.com/details/jacket.html that comes as  close to what I am aiming for. There is plenty of flounce in the skirting.

The idea for the coat from The Dark Angel.

The front of the mockup.

The Back of the mockup.

The Coat will bew made out of a  Heavier Brocade that will be crisp and the flounce will be more prominent. Accents in Black Velveteen with Gold Buttons.

the fabirc is in !! And is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!!!   It will be  perfect for Lady DeLaney's
Lady Pirate Coat. Great body to it! http://stylishfabric.com/brocade-fabrics/jennilyn-brocade-jacquard-fabric-navy-gold.html

I was unsure as to the width of the fabric. But seeing and measuring it, its' 120" wide. I ordered 3 yards of it at $25 a yard.

While i am no where near your talent levels hers an update.

So I decided last night that even though the brown is really pretty, I really need to start with a material that is not as shiny.
I looked though my scraps and found another scrap of stiff material with no give and decided to use that.  I've decided to put the
Lovely purple color on the outside.  Not sure what I'll wear it with but it's just to pretty to use as a lining.

So I've cut out and stitched together a new lining from a navy blue material.  And I now see what they mean when they say sailors have nothing on seamstresses.
Lol my poor boyfriend heard a bunch of new combinations of words last night after I sewed the seam on the wrong side yet again

......my fault for sewing while frustrated.
I have the blue lining done and went to sew in my boning (I'm just using the plastic with its own casing for my first attempt.) only to realize I'm severely short.  I need about another 5 yards.....
Grrrrrrr.

I decided to take a break from my corset and practice everything by making a smaller version for my little sister.  I used scraps of a material I had left from an ill fated ren fair skirt and just to give it some structure I sewed in some sleeves and cut up a dr pepper bottle to make the boning.  It actually worked well.  Not sure if im going to grommet it or just sew some ribbons on.  I still plan on making her a cute dress from the same blue material.  Its not the best work but its practice.

heya lady! lookin good!

I like the ribbon idea to close the kiddos... the lacing freaks parents out, (ive learned from experience... makes it look too mature) but the little ribbons tied into bows seems to work better. even on the same exact dress. :)

i wish i had a dime for every time i sewed the wrong sides together.... never gets less tedious, even in the best of moods!

That is so cute!  You could always close that with hooks and eyes, and tack on the ribbons for show, so you don't have to worry about them tearing off.

I'm going to try to cobble together a square necked chemise tonight using the chemise pattern generator.  I've never done it before, and the types of projects never go smoothly.  I imagine the language won't be suitable for young ears either.

My dress as of last night.  It's red silk taffeta with black lace done in the 1770's style.  Or it will be, at least!

DonaCatalina

love the red silk.
Since I had the camera out;
reworking a 20 year old cotton velvet doublet for DH to wear with a kilt.
my helper was napping on the job.  ;D

So I have sewed everything together and am working on the edges. Decided to do bias tape to finish it then realized that I could not find any that looked right.  So I took some of my longer scraps and cut them into one inch strips and sewed them on as edging.  I'm very happy the way it's turning out since it's my first sewing project.

I decided to take a break before finishing my corset and I made a small bag for my boyfriend.  It's not done I still need to add grommets so I can close it better and then a toggle to hold down the flap.

All the hand finishing inna world!

And a dying experiment!

Then there's the eyelets...

And the coat for my Empire character!

Kate, I'm mesmerized by that button loop. How did you do that?
aka. Lady Eve

Scroll down to method five on this page for how to make an embroidered button loop.  Basically, it's two pieces of thread sewn into a loop shape and then the needle is woven in and out between them to finish the loop.

Kate XXXXXX

I use 4 threads from the needle, so have 8 for the stitched loop and 4 forming the buttonhole stitches over that, for strength and durability.

The stitches on the narrower white hem are about 10 to the inch.

So while in my drug induced haze from the pain meds i'm on right now i decided to start the grommets on my corset.   lol.... it was interesting.  they came out a bit crooked but i'm not to upset since this is my first full project.  i'm actually quite pleased with it.  i have a bit more finishing work to do on it.  the hardest part was not being able to swear at my project.  (had wisdom teeth cut out so no talking for me fight now)
