  I love them!
The copper (?) wire reminds me of the copper foil I used to use on stained glass projects.

Has anyone tried to make a stained glass-style pair of wearable wings? The 'glass' would have to be plastic sheets or film....

Sorry for bumping this back up but I wanted to share my own work with that concept. You can totally use plastic sheeting.  Pardon the rather fantastical application but I am reworking the wing concept in to tree fairy garb. I prefer bold black lines but there is no reason not to use copper. They are articulated, light weight and a whole lot of fun.

Well done!

Colorful and creative. :)

Irma, your gown is incredibly lovely, and you are lovely wearing it!  I want some of that fabric soooo much!

Stella, I love the stained glass effect of your wings!  So colorful!

OK. Here are both hats; as yet untrimmed.
One of the viney brocade, and one of the sage velvet.   Lynn McMaster's pattern in large.

I am sold on the Embroidery mesh instead of buckhram.  They do have to be entirely hand sewn, but they are waterproof.

I want to kidnap the sage velvet one and put a big tan ribbon on it and a lovely off white fluffy feather.   ;D

It just begs to be decorated doesn't it?  I have a Sapphire and Sage broach in gold and topaz for the front..after that I'm stumped , the trim I used on my dress would just seem redundant some how.
I do have a big (ish ) fluffy white feather though.  ;D

Rowan, rather than trim from your gown, use a wide Gimp that you can find in the Decorator section of JoAnn or Hancock Fabrics for Hat bands, then add a brooch and feathers.. I usually find the wider Decorator Gimps in  a color that is in the color or contrasting to what I am wearing in my ensemble.

Here are some examples,.

Sometimes I layer a narrower trim over a wide one for a band... and I use the large bead cones to create feather cockades.  Your hats are very lovely!  Don't forget to show us the decorated versions!

Thanks Rani-I have a few of the bead cones in my collection,  and I still have a bunch of the filigree aglets I ordered form Pillaged Village.
Aglets make very nice cockade bases, and the filigree allows me to use a hatpin too.  I have some lovely curled peacock feathers..
I'm headed for Joann's after work to see about that wide gimp.

Rowen, I was at our JA yesterday, and was mentally buying trim for your hats! LOL Our store has the wide gimp in the home dec section, not with the regular trims. Normally I would steer away from the elaborate jacquard trims, but there were a couple tone-on-tone varieties that would have looked smashing with your hats!

Rowan MacD

I'll check them out!  I have to find something understated for hubbys green vine, and something a bit more blingy for my velvet.

I found the 1-1/2 inch trim at Joann's -marked down from $7.99 a yard to $2.00...I bought 9 yards.

Sitting on top for the dress I will wear it with, along with the caul I made last year.  You can't see the smallish ostrich plum that wraps around the hat from the side.

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted Thank you I have had a lot of fun figuring out how to mix the paints just right.

Rowen MacD Thanks I am working on makeing miniatures in the same style so I can wear the bright colors all the time.

Thanks Rani Zemirah I am very much a use all the colors type of person.

I am currently working on improving my garb. I have used the same pieces for a few years and it is time for a refit.  The cloak is nice and warm and drew a lot of attention last year. It is hand stitched out of the skins of around 20 stuffed animals. It was the cheapest way to get fur in quantity.

This is my standard garb nothing too fancy but the colours attract attention which is nice for me being a merchant.

And this is a close up of the wings.  I made or altered everything I am wearing.

Why not just buy cutter coats online?   Or buy rabbit fur pelts from farmers?  You can get a lot of real fur easily and cheaply.
