I was so proud of myself.  I FINALLY finished the patch work coat for my Stitch character.  For those that don't know, last spring I started sewing all the left over upholstery weight fabric I had left over into sheets of fabric.  From that fabric I cut out the coat.  Between paying projects I assembled it.  It was finally completed last night.  YAY!!
When I showed it off to a few of my friends they said they were really disappointed in how it looked.  When I asked why, they said because it didn't look 'polished'.  One welted pocket was higher than the other.  The pocket flaps didn't match.  The bottom wasn't hemmed and was wonky. The buttons were not spaced right, and were each different.  The collar stood up in one part.  The zig zag stitches were in different colors.  Some of the fabrics were frayed.  When I told them, "That is what I was going for."  They thought I was nuts.   It was suppose to look like someone cobbled it together.  My goal is that when ever there is a hole due to fraying or wear i will just do a blanket stitch patch to cover it up.  I will just different colored threads.  I will have safety pins sticking in it.  I will also be on the look out for interesting buttons.  I don't want any two to be alike.  So if you see me, you will make my day if you have odd buttons I can sew on my coat.  I plan to carry a needle, thread and snips with me.   Pictures will be forth coming.   ;D

Can't wait to see that lovely coat!!

People don't realize how hard it is for a good seamstress to sew badly. :) I'm going to premier it at TRF Bachanal weekend.  ;D

Maybe you should have sent it to me to sew- I could have helped with the 'badly' part!

Isn't that when you lay out all the thread colors or buttons on the table, turn off the lights, spin around three times, and the first one you can grab without knocking anything off the table is what you use?

Stitch, I'm shocked that anyone would have the incredibly poor manners to say something like that!  Especially to someone who is well known in many circles for their sewing skills!  I'm not even sure How they could NOT realize it was exactly the look you were going for!  I guess not everyone has enough whimsy in their spirit to appreciate a persona that doesn't require the perfection of "polish", or precisely level pocket flaps...  ;)  I can't wait to see the coat, either!

I think it had to do with perception.  When you see my work it is polished. It looks store bought, and high quality.  I take pride in the details.  But to see a piece of my work that is not in that manner made their brain go "Huh???"  I would liken it to the art piece I saw done by Pablo Piccasso that was done with children's crayons.  Amazing artist does not compute with child's art supply.

I'm having fun with it so far finding buttons and things to put on it.  I realized I left a needle and pins in the lapel.  I was going to take them out, then thought "Why?"  ;D  I might actually need them.

Finally uploaded our finished outfits for Bristol 2014, first time posting photos (hope they load!):

Me - I went for a Queen Mary I silhouette, hoping to make an Elizabethan gown dual-purpose as Tudor for Tudor-era faires (hence the turn-back sleeves)
Outer fabric is a pale blue with a subtle tan pattern, tan faux suede trim on the skirt, tannish-copper colored silk underskirt.

Himself - Red faux suede, Calontir Trim "Venice" in red/black/gold, tan tapestry slops.

Wow so much new stuff to look at. This is drool worthy stuff here.

Stitch,
I have some odd buttons. I'll stick them in my reticule for you. Remind me that they are there when you see me.

I have been tweaking the fit since these photos were taken. You can see the bead clusters if you look closely. The peplum dresses are rather late in the Renaissance period.

And I changed out the closure on the cape to a frog from internal buttons.

Here are some of the latest projects.

#1  The Lady Stitch Coat:  This was made from left over fabric from everyone else's projects.  I'm not as happy with the CF, but I think it turned out nice.  It kept the chill out when the weather cooled off in the mornings and evenings at fair. I loved that I had pockets.  I actually got more compliments than the PP, which is HIGHLY unusual!
Posed with PP
Side shot with Fuzzlet
Shot of the back, not the best but you can at least see it.

#2:  The Greek Princess:  The PP asked me to make the fuzzlet a Greek theamed outfit for TRF this year.  She loved the 'flower' crown.  It is a basic pillow case dress tied with a golden rope.  Then I made from left over jaguar print fur a cape.  I made a kitty cat head and tail to go on it.  That way she had her "animal skin" cloak.   She used it as her stuff animal for the weekend.

#3 A partial Father Christmas:  The PP's new outfit.  He wanted to wear as much of it as he could this weekend.  That hat is warm!  It worked great.  The shirt and pants are linen.  He now has a 3 inch wide belt, and a pouch to match.  That way one pouch can be mundane world, the other have "reindeer treats".   What I liked was someone got what he was going for and loved it.

So what do you think?  ;D

Your "leftovers" coat looks great, just enough odd and different shaped pieces so that it looks unplanned.

PP's Father Christmas holds his own with Sholo, which is really something to stand beside him and still look impressive.

Thank you everyone.  I will pass along your comments about the FC to the PP. :)

I'm not sure if I'm easier or harder to find in a crowd.  One thing for sure it is easy to describe me.  A few vendors on Sunday asked for  "Patches" to stop by.  So I think I made an impression. :)
