Not really worried about it. It isn't like I will be living out there for weeks on end to the point of needing a generator. I've got plenty of propane and battery powered camping devices to keep me in warmth and light for the time I will be camping.

Regardless, even if I had to sleep in the car I am still looking forward to it.

I did that last year.  Not fun but better than missing TRF.  This year I have a nice little tent so I can sleep flat.
Personally, I don't like generators.  People should be able to let go of the electric bug for a weekend.
I wish there was a rule that generators had to be within 3 feet of their owner's bed.  (Medical needs exempt)
I would also ban all recorded music, and allow only live music, but I am not King George.

Awesome - Looks great.
Wish I were going to get home in time to make some up.
I still worry about them growing legs.

Thanks they turned out pretty nice.  It would be annoying if someone walked off with them but there is less that ten dollars not counting time in them.  The solor lights were less that two dollards the PVC pipe was scrap laying around and new cost around 5 dollars the paint was the most expensive at 7 dollars and the work was just a couple hours.  Still you would hope people had more self respect that to steal something like them from the camp grounds.

How are you standing them up?  I thought you had used conduit which could be bored down into soft ground, but pvc, not so much.  Did you attach stakes?  Or just dig a hole?

18 inch tent stakes which I also had extra of they are the correct size to just fit in a 3/4 inch PVC pipe  drive the stakes in about ten inches leaving aboutt eight to go into the pipe.   Conduit would be stronger and I might do that later as I can cut it at an angle to make it self driving.  But I had the tent stakes and the PVC so it make an cheap experiment.  I'm interrested in seeing how they work in reality compared to theory.

What about using 3/4" EMT?  It comes in 10' sticks and is pretty cheap at your local hardware store in the electrical section.

Should work fine and most likely what I would have gone with if I hadn't had the PVC pipe all ready in my scrap pile.

That's what I used Glaodian, and very similar lights.  I'm thinking rebar stakes will fit in the end of them and I can drive those into the ground without having to hammer on the 3/4" EMT.

You might check at home dept for foundation spikes (the ones they use to hold the wire) they have points and holes you canuse to fasten them to the EMT.  If these work this weekend I'm going to go that way for the rest of the season, I figure the burn ban will be in place all season.

Just a reminder to everyone.
I was driving through the TRF parking lot his weekend and saw that the pine straw is tinder dry and inches deep. It's not going to take much to start a nasty fire very quickly. I haven't had a chance to look at the campground, but it's going to be just as dry without the pine needles.
Please be extra extra careful about cigarettes and any kind of fire out there.

And bring a fire extinguisher to your camp if you have one or would purchase one!!

Sir Richard, those lights look great.  i had to go for the slightly pricer route because i didn't have time to make my own (working way too much and finishing garb still).  i got solar powered LED pole lights at home depot that are about 5' and flicker like torches.  gives it an interesting look.  Target also has a bunch of solar powered LED Halloween/Christmas lights (though they are a little on the pricey side too) that i got to decorate our campsite.  every little bit of light will help, i figure.

Laird Fraser of Lovatt

I have all red LED Xmas lights,(for our canopy) that'll run off the generator, a couple of battery powered LED tent lights and a couple of solar lights with glass "crackle" tops... they throw of an interesting light pattern so i may pick up a couple more.  We may not have fires/tikis but there should be light enough to have a good time.  ;)  ;D
