The call has been heard from the stupidly self centered. It was just reported that the Coast Guard is overwhelmed by 150 calls for rescue from people on Bolivar Peninsula. Not bad for an are with less than 1000 permanent residents that has been under a mandatory evacuation order for three days. It seems that now the seas are really pushing across the tall sand bar that normally sticks above water, just like it's been forecast to do for four days.
I have no sympathy for people who refuse to help themselves and then expect someone else to take care of them. My heart goes out to the brave hard working Coasties that are going to do everything they can to save the terminally stupid and to the innocent people that they can't get to because of the stupids.

Risk your life a few times rescueing people that are only in trouble because they insisted on doing things that they were told many times were dangerous. You might get a ittle bitter too when they get themselves in trouble, then insist that somebody has to come rescue them.

I am sure they were told to evacuate. Common sense is not too common any more- alas!
Dark clouds are rolling in here- East of Austin and it is a bit breezy!

Lady Tegan (My mother) lives a little north of Beaumont in Lumberton, I talked to her and she said the whole area almost looks like it did after Rita hit a few year ago. She faired alright just lost a few trees but everyone is doing good. :)

I'm hoping to hear the same report from others in Ike's path.

I'm just outside the Beltway--Westheimer and Wilcrest...My power came back on today about noonish...A few branches and a couple of crepe myrtles down...I consider myself one of the very fortunate.  Plus camping at TRF and the former Excal(Lockhart) helped me get through ok.  The camp shower is set up on my porch as our water pressure is still waaay low.  Good wishes and prayers to all our "family" affected by the storm.
