This recent topic reminds me of an old friend of mine.  Every now and again we used to gather at his place to watch movies.  Occasionally it would be anime.  The first few had some mature content.  Nothinh approaching porn but adult none the less.  The last one was totally lacking in any nudity at all.  He was very upset that we hadn't brought more f*&^ime, haha.  That term is still with me. F---ime, HA.
I hope my life is an epic tale that ends well and everyone likes to read. --Grovdin Dokk

Reunion tower in Dallas I work gaming BattleTech to be specific while the game isn't anime based much of the art was based off several different anime series.  Anime is pretty board ranging from hardcore hentai to silly small kids stuff. I'm not much of a fan of the new stuff but really enjoyed the serious science fiction and fantasy series like Record of the lodus war, Area 88, Grey my wife likes the comedy action series like Lupin III and Tank Police.  Was never into the hentai myself but know some that are. I've always been a fan of the Japanese monster movies like Godzilla and martial arts movie.  Now I also enjoy Japanese horror and comedy.

The con is more than just anime though that's its core it also Japanese pop culture like Ninja war, Iron chief, Japanese pop music they always have visiting bands from Japan, there are panels on art, and voice acting, custom making, cosplay the last few years they have focus more on the younger crowds which is a bit disappointing to me but I understand that is were the money is.

Wow talk about old school anime those brought back some memories!  The ones I remember seeing as a teen in addition to the ones you named, were stuff like Dagger of Kamui, Macross, Megazone 23 pt.1 & 2, Lensmen, Vampire Hunter D, Lovely Angels (Dirty pair), Gatchamen, Bubblegum Crisis, and Captain Harlock to name just a few.  Great films all.

While I'd love to go and get stuff for Steaming, I shudder at the thought of an entire Anime fest.   Skin crawls.  My second roommate in college was a rabid anime fan, and it and some of the 'toons on TV turned me off for LIFE.  I have to run the other way.   Ew.  Sorry, must go be ill now.

Lemme guess Marga,  they were into the hentai alien p*** rape scenes?

Nope,  Minmae.  On the alarm clock.  Dressing like anime for regular classes.  On the 6 am alarm clock.  Posters.  Speed racer.

I like the Last Unicorn, but the anime still bothers me...  I guess being an artist the big eyes, no mouth, and lip movements that aren't even vaguely matching just get to me.   Anime porn  - that's just WORSE.

I even LIKE Japan - well, Shogun era at least.  I'm not so sure about modern Japan...

Anime style the big eyes etc has its roots in American cartoons with the work of people like Max Fleischer and cartoons like Betty Boop and Koko the Clown.  I also love those cartoons so its not surprising that I like the Japanese style of anime.  And if you look at the 1940's Superman cartoons you will see a lot of simularities to anime too.

I've been to panal discussions with voice actors and they say one of the hardest things to do is to get the voice to match the month given the huge difference between English and Japanese.  That bothers me to which is the reason I perfer sub-titles to dubbing.  Of course the problem isn't limited to anime, look at how the voices and months do not match in very early dubbed Japanese monster and marital arts movies.  It use to be a joke that the actores months would move minutes before you heard any sound.   They even made a joke of it in the second Police Acdemy movie.

So I think I have a preliminary design in my head of my new outfit.  Think bustle gown for the skirt, all frilly and bustly.  Then my white leather long corset with metal loops on the bottom of it.  And finally one of those little frilly short sleeve shrugs similar to the ones on the Lovechild Boudoir website.... Then maybe a cute little hat with some frills and a see thru veil half over the eyes with some goggles on the hat...  Then for Dickens on the strand I will be making an off the shoulder corset in the same fabric as the skirt for the balls and a long button up the front jacket for the day.  My twin and I have been wanting some nice Dickens outfits for yrs now and doubling part of it as my steampunk outfit will be perfect!!

Now what sort of things could I add to steampunk it up besides a pair of cute goggles and a fun laser looking gun....  hm, not sure really?  Any suggestions?

Lady E, if you go back to some of the earlier pages of this thread you'll find lots of links to sites that have cool S/P stuff, and there are lots of ideas there...

You might take a look at this site, also... it's got more pics than I've even been able to view so far, of a SteamPunk fashion show, and the ideas are completely crazed!!!

I've got my corset on the way, have blouse, short jacket and long.  I'm gathering things along these same lines (it's a popular theme with the ladies who want to still look like "Ladies").  I don't have the figure to pull off some of the other stuff... I'm plus sized.

Actually found the frilly shrug at Catherines.com.  Give them a look-see. Now, it's got to have some trim and stuff and things...

My theme colors will be black, purple and blue.  Once I have the skirt material (going to need yards and yards for the bustling and swagging) then I start trimming.

That wounds like it might be pretty cool.  IF I can make it, I'll have to get my XXXenophile collection autographed.  :P

Autographed art is a good thing.

Still working on my punkiness.  I made garters/sock toppers today.  I've spent weeks online looking for vertical striped socks for my stumpy legs w/limited success.  I finally found a pair at Target & wouldn't you know I put a hole in them once I got them home & tried them on.  Then while rummaging through the sock/glove drawer I found a perfect pair I'd bought and forgotten.  Thank goodness I buy interesting socks whenever I find them & think they might fit.

Please pray to the corset gods that my custom order bodice comes in on time & w/my weird specs.  Ditto the hat.

I'm so excited to start seeing things piece together for everyone!
Though I havent had much of a chance to work on my weapons or really figure out what I want to do with my goggles, my seamstress delivered my underbust corset to me yesterday. I'm really excited! It will be with different laces but this is a close-up on my corset (Grov, you don't even need to comment. :P )

And then my whole ensemble so far minus boots, the belt on my thigh, and the belltopper hat.

I still need to figure out and create the belt and holster for my shotgun and then for my blaster. Lots to do still!
Its been great how everything has kind of pieced itself together even though I made preliminary sketches in my mind of what I thought I wanted. I'm kind of glad it didn't go the way I thought it would!

Definitely modding is going to be happening with my shirt, maybe hoping to get a bustle made out of the extra fabric from my corset.
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)

Great Ashtara above, woman!  That is one rawkin hot bodice and well worth the wait - love the colors.

Well, lookit what's been hidin' underneath that great big hat!!!  What a cutie you are, grrrlie!!!  I am sooo lovin' the bodice, and the belts are rockin', also!  Can't wait to see it all put together...  Have fun with all the rest!

I finally got the rest of my mail order Ebay goodies for my favors, and I've been busily designing all sorts of things...   :D
