So I finally finished my bodice.  I had to take it in by 4 inches!  Its nice to have lost the weight  ;D

Deadlines loom.
I decided to try a <gasp> commercial pattern rather than drafting my own this time. Okay, still had to redraft a little to fit.

Wonderful projects everyone!!!

Progress on the Pelican Portrait gown has been slow due to Bridal Alterations that have been coming my way. After this week, I will de turning away Bridal Alterations, other than for the ones I have committed to. Otehr Alterations like pant hems, repairs, I can have my Apprentice do. Bridal takes too much time and are complicated. Sometimes even for me.

Last evening, I did some work on the gown bodice. The jewels came in, so the embellishing is finished. I made delicate slashes with the fur knife over the marks for the silk poofs to pop through.

What I did was cut a bunch of 4 1/2" diameter circles on the white silk using an old TUPPERWARE lid. I eyedballed about 3/4" from the edge, hand sewed some basting stitches. Making the silk circle look like a mini mop hat when gathered, I back stitched and tied off the thread. With two fingers inside the poof, I fitted it through the slitted slash. Arranging the fabric onnthe worng side, I took fabric glue to secure the rest down. On the right side, I made sure the silk covered as much of the slash. Any rough spots, I will use Fray Check.

I came up with that idea from one of my books, ELIZABETHAN COSTUMING by Janet Winter and Carolyn Savoy, page 123. This is a very handy book for the costumer, no matter wht your level of sewing is.

From further study of the portrait, it appears that that procedure as what was done. Photos coming this week.

I spent an hour Sunday embroidering the new doublet sleeves. I really need to take some pics and get them up.
Lady Kathleen will probably get pics of her lovely dress up before I get mine up.

Later Tuesday, Dona!!

I have the bodice together, bias taped except for the picadils. I have the shoulder rolls pinned on the bodice straps. Things are crude right now.

Thank you DonaCatalina,
The pattern suggests only the flange and cuff. We decided to put it down the front around the neck and lower hem and a double around the waste. I think it really pops it .
