Listening into the first responders they are really scrambling to keep things under control.  It's so dry that even when they think an area is out it flares back up.

Lady Laura

I saw that pic of the smoke behind the arena day before yesterday, so it's not from today.  Although, it could look like that right now with what all's happening today.

It not possible for me to get to the area with supplies to donate. Have they set up any fund anywhere? I would most gladly contribute.

I would contact the Red Cross.

There are also Facebook pages set up that may be useful.  One of them Grimes County Sheriff page and the other is something like Magnolia Fire Information.  (Don't have FB at work)  So far they've gotten everything and more than they've asked for and very quickly.  Great community support.

May not be much help but anyone who may need to relocate 3 to 5 horses please feel free to contact me and we will see what we can get done. My only concern is this area would be transporting them from point A to point B. Do not have stables but have a small barn and pasture area to put them on.

They are saying the Grimes County part of the Tri County fire is at 60% containment... it's the Waller County part that is giving them problems now...

Red Cross is not an option for me. I have issues with them. I'll keep looking, but thanks.

If you have FB then you can search there.  If not I'm sure TRF will set something up once things are less chaotic.

As of now they are not short of supplies.  Local citizens and businesses have come through big time for our firefighters.

Latest Grimes Co. Sheriff update:

?090811 11:45AM FIRE UPDATE. There has been a new flare-up to the southeast of the Foxfire Subdivision. At this time, firefighters are making a stand at the fire lane to keep the flare-up contained. If the fire breaches the fire lane, we will post an update. The fire in the Riley Road area is still being managed south of Walnut Ridge Road in Waller County. There is no change in evacuation orders at this time.

Merlin, there are two Texas grocery chains that are accepting monetary donations.  HEB grocery and Randall's.  You might try contacting them to see about a donation.  I believe Randall's was bought out by Safeway, but you would probably have better luck contacting a Randall's in the Houston area directly.  YOU are much appreciated for this gesture and Thank You!

Also try the Salvation Army.  They usually show up in times of need like this.  They are a church, but they don't care.  They are there when the need arises.

just a thought.
Why do I feel like I've worn something like this before?

Bonny Pearl

This just got to me.  I am thinking of Bastrop as well when I view this.  :'(

I didn't know about this place:

Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary

Yes there is an actual sanctuary for wolves near us.  Wow, learn something new everyday!  There apparently was concern about these animals and where to take them if necessary.

Will have to consider attending this event, it's right before faire starts:

Anyone posting fire updates from FB, please double check the date & time on the postings. FB has a bad habit of reposting things so that they look current when they are not.

Bonny, that sounds pretty cool.
Might be worth the drive down from DFW as a nice diversion before faire.

ABC13 has a live stream up from a chopper right now for those interested.
It is kinda mesmerizing... just smoke everywhere.

Edit: well, they were in the thick of it a bit ago.. now they're just goofing around.
Hopefully they'll get back to a useful spot soon...
