So where did the worst damage happen at?

In/around the northwest quadrant of the island where all the "shanty houses" are located.  They have been pumping the fresh water into the sea to alleviate the flooding in the center of the island.  Most of the island is below sea level so the water has no where to run off.  Hanna turned it into one big lake.  We were lucky with her as she just dumped around 12 inches of rain.  Wind damage was minimal.  Storm surge did a lot of damage on the west coast.  Next storm is suppose to bring a lot less rain but a lot more wind and surge.  Possible up to 13 ft. of storm surge. 

Anna, if I can find someone to stay with me, I'm going to stay here in the house.  If not, I'll try to find room at the shelter.

Good news and bad news.

Good news is one of my housemates, Sean, who was heading to the UK from Jamaica has cancelled his trip (actually, they cancelled his trip for him) and will be here this morning to help with final preps on the house.

Bad new is Ike is only 265 miles away and moving fast!

I am now sheltering in a house built in 1827 with a group of 6 people.  The storm is 90 miles out scheduled to hit us late tonight or in the wee hours (2 am).  Ike is now a Category 4 with winds of 135 mph.  It was a Cat 2 two hours ago and is approaching from the Northwest of the island at about 15 mph.

The rain has just begun.  Kitties are in my house in the lap of luxury.  My 3 legged dog is here with me as well as the dog that belongs to the owner of my house.

When I survive this...I'll be considered an Old Salt!!!  I will have earned the golden pirate earring I wear in my left ear.

Let's just hope the damage is minimal...considering!
